Most Guildhall pipes don’t go for anywhere near $100 unless it’s a very desirable shape. But yes they are good value and well made pipe.

An unsmoked (and unattractive by my eyes) Sasieni Four Dot freehand, very unusual, did OK.

I just picked up this pipe. May have over paid for it but I liked the grain and from the picture it should clean up nice. From some research because the R and S is intertwined it could be an older one? What do you think?

I think I can tell what you mean about the look but where are the tells on the fit?
The angle of the taper on the stem and the gaps between it and the case.

Nope, thats a poorly cut Catalin replacement stem, I might be an old one but its not original. The Button is poorly formed, the taper is wrong, the length is wrong, and the transition is bad. Exactly - everything has to fit perfectly, and even if it does that still doesn't guarantee that the stem is original. I've had a few replacement orific stems in cases that you can tell were originally p-lip by the indentation in the case.
And we've all seen those 'mint unsmoked' 120+ yr-old pipes with a 1/8" gap between the rim and the top of the case, yet the high-rollers pay the big bucks for them.
To me it looks like a heckuva lot to pay for a 1902 with a replacement stem. The 'rim lava' might be okay, but you won't know until you start cleaning it out, and if you find a wreck underneath you will not be able to return it. Kind of like buying one of those geodes in a rock shop in Colorado.
