I was the high bidder on that until yesterday.
Just shows how crazy Pete prices are. My entire pipe with briar circle stem cost less than that stem roughly nine months ago

Yeah I’m not really into paying more for a stem than I generally pay for pipes…Just shows how crazy Pete prices are. My entire pipe with briar circle stem cost less than that stem roughly nine months ago

Well the briar circle isn’t that hard but I’m not sure where your gonna come up with the metal inlaid P at.I'm pretty sure those would be pretty easy to replicate. If they are gonna sell for that much, I might as well get out the metal lathe lol
Oh well, win some, lose some.A long story on this one. I had a chance at buying this Peterson at our local art museum charity auction. I was traveling but my neighbor works there. She sent me this photo of the pipe with a $25 sticker. I said absolutely buy it. There were time gaps, as I was driving, and she was working the museum sale. A while later, she said the price was $150 not $25, and was I still interested. I asked her for a photo that shows a silver hallmark (she didn't know what that was) as I doubted it was really Sterling Silver. When she went back to photograph it, it was being purchased by a local real estate agent. I assumed he was just making a charitable donation, but nope, it showed up on Ebay last week (to my knowledge, he has no tobacco pipe interest, but he did sell our first house!). I think a Sterling cap on this type of Peterson meer is somewhat unsual, right?

Sterling caps on Pete meers are not at all uncommon, they are actually more common than nickel.A long story on this one. On that kind of meer? Isn't that the pressed product (vs block)?Sterling caps on Pete meers are not at all uncommon, they are actually more common than nickel.
It's an African block meerschaum. They're different from Turkish meerschaum, but the ones I've smoked have been great. On that kind of meer? Isn't that the pressed product (vs block)?
I’m not aware of Peterson ever using pressed meer. That’s an African meer made by Manx/Laxey pipe works on the Isle of Mann for Peterson. It’s in the “Aboriginal” finish. All the Manx/Laxey Pete’s I’ve ever had were sterling silver capped. Some were even gold plated. On that kind of meer? Isn't that the pressed product (vs block)?
Looks like the the same meer I own. Though mine has darkened in both good and bad ways since I bought it from a friend some 30 years ago.A long story on this one. Yeah I only saw the BIN pop up on my feed. Before opening the link I thought it was someone who was just dreaming like that person who was asking +$3,000 for the gold banded Twain. After seeing its age and condition it makes sense it went for that much. Still. it’s kind of lame when these auctions end early.Well this one was originally listed as an auction, bidding started and then all the bids were canceled and it was relisted as a BIN/Offer at $914. It was then immediately sold. I suspect someone messaged the seller and made them an offer wanting to bypass the competition of bidding and the seller agreed.

I suspect it may have actually gone for more than that at auction, I think the buy who offered them that also knew it was gonna go for more, otherwise they would have taken their chances bidding on the first listing.Yeah I only saw the BIN pop up on my feed.
