Thought they were your favourite?
Don't know what to say about your cap variations. I'm of the opinion that if a man's hair is getting in the way of things, then it needs cutting.
That's old age talking though. I had long hair in the late 80's, tied back in a ponytail. As I recall around the same time, all the boys down under were sporting mullets. Perhaps you should be considering a mullet instead of another pipe?
Mullét, it’s French for never getting laid again…well at least according to Mrs. Ka, and in my neck of the woods she’s the authority on the subject.

Surprisingly, I agree with you about hair. However I made an exception to the rule and decided the backwards cap was a better look than a bandanna. I tried to manifest a Cuban salsa singer vibe rather than a cross between Wesley and Woody in their ‘93 classic. It was the first kitchen job I’ve had in a couple of years, and I don’t see another anytime soon.

As for Charlies. I’ve got plenty, still need to unveil the other 6 or so I picked up since last time. I’m only after interesting shapes of theirs now, or something from the first year of production

This 'family-era' Ben Wade---with minor blemish----veritably slipped through the pipe community's fingers.

Bidding started at only £155 ($197.55). Deals like this do occasionally go unnoticed.

Seller states;

“There has been some restoration carried out to the bowl which now has a copper band fitted around the top. Although there is still cracking apparent the pipe will now be sound enough to smoke if the buyer so wished. However this really is a collectors piece due to its rarity.”

Sounds like one of those ‘buy with confidence’ sales.
To be fair, he’s now dropped his prices by at least half, from last year. When you consider his added expense of sticking copper rings on bowls, whilst not commendable, it is, at least, still laughable.

That truly is a shocking repair! :(

This appears to be his preferred method of repair. The "old copper tubing" method.
I think these photos may have been the GBD set he ("The Mitre") attempted to repair. At least one of the pipes in the set was smokeable. I'm glad that these pipes aren't one-of-a-kind rarities, in any case. Perhaps a ventilated bowl gives a cooler smoke, who knows?! ;)

Yes it is the pair of GBD's.
I don't know, perhaps it might've been better to have left the damaged one "as is", without the Cu ring.
The point being that it'll never get smoked (I seriously doubt it would be), so the ring serves no purpose in that case.
Conversely, for the "pipe-collector", the Cu rings completely detract from the aesthetics, at least IMHO.
If one were to make a repair by banding the bowl, surely a decorative ring, or at least a light SWG copper, silver, gold, (add your preferred metal here) cap/ring type of thing. Not just a piece of copper tubing jammed onto the top of the bowl.

I had £150 on it. Someone else did. Hope they are a member here and really enjoy the pipes.
Dang. Those ones that end a few over your max always sting to me. I mean I know their max could've been 100 more than mine but I always think about if I could've beat them with 5 or 10 more.
