Most of my back is done. I want to get my legs and shoulder done too. Unfortunately, I can't get anything that shows in business casual attire due to my career choices. I don't think it's right, but it's how the world is.
@smokinggun

Good show! :) I agree with everything you said. It's your life and your body and you do with it what you damn well want to :D

I know this thread started a while ago, but since it has been resurrected, I'll add my two bits. I have two tats currently. Planning on 3 or 4 more. First two are simple. Have two more in the works the same style. Third will be the family brand. Dad raised cattle and farmed alfalfa. We branded and ear tagged our cattle to show ownership. If I really wanted to, dad still has the branding iron, but I think the tattoo would be less painful. It will remind me of where I came from.
I agree with the comment about getting them done for me not for anyone else.

Branding is some serious stuff, much more painful than a tattoo. I have seen it done but never have done it myself. I don't think I want to. You seriously have to have ba**s of steal to bet branded. :D

The idea of getting branded is a bit more than I want to do. After all, the brand is nearly 6" across and would be glowing cherry red when it touched my skin. Where I want the brand isn't that big.

I've always known I'd be tattooed, even when I was little. It was just something I always liked.
Same. When I was kid I was just fascinated by them to the point that I knew as soon as I was able, I would get tattooed, and I did.
I am torn though on the rise in popularity of tattoos over the last 10 years or so. When I got tattooed, you had to go to the bad part of town to find a tattoo parlor. Now it seems like there is one on every street corner in every strip mall. Its also given rise to public acceptance. While this is good on one hand, on the other, getting tattooed was appealing precisely because it was somewhat "taboo." Now that every soccer mom in America has dolphin on her ankle, and frat boys have tribal/barbed wire arm bands, its lost that allure. :(

I have no tattoos and I dont want any, But I am not going to be negative toward someone because they have a tattoo or tattoos, and why should I. Some of the ones I have seen on some people are works of art with hours and hours of effort put into them. My partner at work, His son got a tattoo about ten years ago and my partner gives his son down the road about that not being normal, His sons reply was "Dad, 10 years from now, people who dont have a tattoo will be the ones who aren't normal", I can safely say that in my area and this day and time, I see more people with tattoos than without. Im not normal, and you can ask most anybody who knows me and they will most certainly agree. :puffy:

Hey, it's a post where I was mentioned but never commented in!
My dad says "if you get any more tattoos, you're gonna need a Harley." I told him that was alright. I don't know any poor Harley drivers. ;) My tattoos are almost like mile-markers of my life.

I think tattoos will for the most part remain taboo. There will always be people that oppose tattoos and because of it there will always be people who will get them. I have to say that's what sparked my interest in getting my first one, the taboo of it. Like I said before though, the tats I have mean something to me personally.

I don't have a problem with non-subculture types (soccer moms etc.) getting tats, even if it is a dolphin on their ankle or a butterfly above their buttcrack. More tattooed people=more tattoo acceptance. All I gotta say is "Hey what took ya so long?"
Same as pipe smokers. I'd rather smoke a pipe with a frat boy and have one little thing in common than to just be sitting across the room glaring at each other. I'm proud to be part of this community and welcome anyone willing to share the experience. Even if it's for a slightly different reason than my own.

Haven't had one, don't think I will but to each his or her own. Just my personal opinion, the female body is the most beautiful thing in creation, disappointed when I see them tattooed up. As I said, not a judgment on others, just my personal feeling. Guys, cover up as much as possible....

I have 13 tattoos now. Hadn't gotten any work done sine July of 99 when I left Germany. My back is covered, I have some on my arms, upper legs, calfs, chest, ankles, stomach and the inside of my bottom lip. It helped that my friend owned a shop and I would go and help make needles, do thermographs, clean up and talk people out of doing stupid things. Great experiences and j hope to get more......one day.

I have avoided back surgery for 30 years now. I have sorta decided that if I ever go under the knife, I will get a small tattoo in the area. No one, but the wife will ever see a tattoo around the L4-L5 vertebra.

I have never had a problem with people asking about my ink, I'm always happy to talk about them. It's not really any different than someone commenting on a shirt I am wearing, to me at least.
I do not have a problem with people asking me about my tattoos as well, I get questioned about them daily.

I do however have a problem with people asking rude things or making rude statements which often happens.
I have even had strangers tuch my face and try to lift my shirt to see them which is a real invasion of my personal space and priviacy.

You sure that was to see your tattoos? That's the kind of excuse I'd use.
What? I was seeing if you had more tats under your shirt. No! I wasn't trying to be a pervert!
