Scented can be nice, but very light on the topping. Should be dry to start with, coaxing out just the right amount of moisture as you proceed along. The first light should be the one and only true light. Cadence is important, but should not be static. Important clues should be heeded to increase or decrease the rythym. It's not necessary to go to the absolute bottom, but satisfaction may be increased in doing so. When finished, an appropriate amount of rest is a good thing.

These are some of the tenets I follow to have a great smoke.
