I was never good at watching TV. Can't stand. I did for awhile enjoyed watching some movies. Some things, I can watch without any issues. Monty Python, war movies, documentaries.. Now, I can't barely watch any moving pictures for 15 minutes. I have to move on.

Always enjoyed reading more than watching. But can't read anything for any given length of time. Keep jumping around. Short information is all I can stand. I feel like if I give too much time to anything, I'm wasting time. I can still listen to music for few hours. But it's like background music while I'm reading.

Not sure what's going on. Kinda late for mid life crisis, I think.

Xenomorph particulates were injected into your food at some time in the past, and are now consuming your brain cells one at a time. Like the corrosive gas in 10 Cloverfield Lane, only more subtle.

No worries, though. Once enough brain cells have been removed they'll be replaced by atom-sized microtronic behavior controllers Borg-style, and your assimilation will be complete.

Then you will be happy.

As a child I already liked to read, I devoured everything I found at home. I remember, from the first adult books, Dracula, war novels, as well as the typical collections of history in general. I take refuge in reading, I try to watch only the essential on YouTube. I don't have social networks, only here. TV is a real shit. For decades now. A very famous producer said in the 70's that TV would be more and more toxic and harmful for the generations to come. The only movies I watch are from amazon prime, sometimes I find something decent. In short, reading makes me disconnect from the outside world, but at the same time, understand better what the hell we are doing here, in this blue ball, spinning around another incandescent ball. You just have to look back, to understand the present.

Sounds a lot like ADD to me actually.

That's too bad what some of you have said about books. I'm currently reading Robinson Crusoe, and while I love it, the style that it's written in would be publishing suicide today. Everything is described to the smallest detail that it just wouldn't hold the attention of the average person anymore. I think it's just the times we live in.

Too much information..overload. When i get to this point, i went out to meet people - change the environment or go to bar/have fun..otherwise my brain will overheat at home. Road trip, went to the farm, offroading, or just road trip and travelling generally cool me down. Drinking alone will sink me even further so its not the way out.
This tend to happen on people with critical thinking - loneliness and general mistrust of the media (TV, news etc) puffy puffy puffy

I've heard one can get worms that get put into the brain and consume the particulates which are eating your brain. But then you gotta get the worm out.

I would direct you to a physician.
Have your moods changed?
Have you lost interest in other things?
There are too many possiblities to just guess.
Increased anxiety?
Depression?
A whole world of possiblities. It could be mental health or it could be medical issues voicing themselves through your thought processes.

Any fairly significant changes in behavior or ability should be looked into.

I dont know your typical posting habits but your post has omitted words and is a little scattered. Maybe you were just in a hurry or maybe there are issues with focus.

If it was just tv Id chalk it up to content getting increasingly crappy but your having issues with reading too. I think its time to talk to a doc.

I think it's a sign of the times. The world started to become fictional, for me, after 2001 and I gradually extended my TV ban to newspapers and then radio. Nowadays, I can't pick up a book unless it's a technical or seminal reference - fiction is redundant when we look around us, it's daily life. Even satire struggles.

Now more than ever, we're having to question who we are and what we believe in, where we stand. It's tough going even for someone like me, who has had to repeatedly ask myself these questions for decades. The dial has been turned up to 11 now. Interesting times.
