In NC it's cold at 20 degrees. In NC panic buying includes bread, milk and toilet paper, that is until sold out. In NC schools close if the pavement is wet. In NC no one knows how to drive in the snow, and even if you do best stay home. In Chicago the streets are salted before the snow falls; in NC there seems no relationship between stockpiled salt and the streets of its distribution. In Chicago side-streets are plowed within 48 hours; in NC it can wait on next week.

To all the afflicted: Stay safe, stay warm, and if possible stay home.

Bundle up and find some cover. I worked in the back of a dudes trailer repair truck for 4 hours Friday, 10F out. I’ve also smoked outside more than I’ve smoked inside thus far, being new here. I was never afforded simple luxuries that most people believe are the standard, so I have no problem with working, eating, or smoking in adverse conditions. No offense to you, just my 2 cents. Go smoke and enjoy yourself.

We generally do not get any serious or at least consistent winter precipitation to justify the cost of snow removal for an event that may or may not happen within a five year span in NC. We get what...one maybe two minor snows a year (excluding the mountains). The ones that don't know how to drive in the snow are actually the very transplants that make fun of the locals for "not being able to drive in the snow". That was actually a subject WRAL touched on with NCSHP data a few years back. Most locals stay off the road because we know better. We know the roads are going to be icy and they are going to be that way until it melts which is on average an inconvenience of 48 hours. Do the schools close for insane low amounts of snow? You bet...because the liability isn't worth it.

Especially not outside and not in my shop either. My small heaters don’t have anywhere near the juice to get it warm. Here is a screen cap of present conditions.
43, man that's freaking cold!

I'm from Texas, can someone explain what that weird little dash in front of the temperature is? Also, what is the C afterwards? Does that mean Canadian temperatures or what?

Here in the North Country of NYS, we've had a milder winter than usual temperature wise. I can count on two hands the amount of below zero Fehrenheit days we've had and most morning walks, my moustache hasn't even frozen ten to fifteen minutes in!

Made my evening. That little dash is the old Norse symbol for "break out the Nosewarmers, for today we become men."

It's -20°C in Minneapolis. I'll smoke outside if I go with my son to the park. If the wind is blowing makes no sense to attempt to smoke outside in such cold weather. Bless my wife, who tolerates my smoking in my designated indoor domain.

Well, I did get a bowl of Pegasus in thanks to my electric blanket I wrap myself in and set on cook while smoking.
Don't laugh - it works awesome. :)

I'm warning anyone who is affected by this cold front to drive with extreme caution. If you have to be out on A highway, especially a rural highway, make sure you have ample cold weather gear to keep you safe in such extreme conditions. A lot of people tend to shrug their shoulders and say,"Nothing will happen', and drive with nothing more than a light jacket on.
Be smart, drive prepared and be safe.
Yes definitely, I've never been over the border but even down in Ft. Covington Ny, It can get pretty cold and wind chill -50 and it's no joke, If you don't prepare you can find yourself in a bad situation. Stay safe !
