There's approximately 2 grams per bowl. That is 25 bowls per 50 gr tin. At 3 bowls per day, you're consuming 6 gr per day or 2.19 kg per year or 4.83 pounds. 1 bowl per day would be approximately 1.61 pounds per year, 2 bowls per day would equate to 3.22 pounds per year.

Sounds like you should cellar 4 lbs per every year you want to smoke into the future.

Just what I was looking for, thank you. I prefer pipes with giant bowls, so I will have to stock more just to be safe.

About 3 years. I tend to like the English blends that go out of stock fast - like Squadron Leader.
I often wonder if I even would enjoy English blends that I stockpiled twenty years ago or would the Latakia have mellowed too much. I’m trying to get to a point where I basically have 5 years of tobacco at my current smoking pace. Them rotation will play a key so I’m smoking aged tobacco but they hasn’t lost what I love about it.

Heck, for all I know, I may not even LIKE English blends in 5 years.....

I’ve about 130 lbs, give or take a few ounces. Though, I figure I’ve another 60ish pounds to go before I’ll be set if the tobacco apocalypse happens. I’ve also stocked up on cleaners. I’ve over 10,000 tapered bristle, and somewhere north of that in various Regular, tapered, and extra fluffy pipe cleaners. Though I’ve not done the math to figure if that’ll be enough for my lifetime. *Ive always just added pipe cleaners to my pipe orders. They’re so cheap, and now that the prospect of them being considered “tobacco product” via the deeming rules, and the subsequent taxes they’ll face, I’m glad I’m stocked.

Oh, and for anyone wondering why so many pipe cleaners...... refer to the deeming regulations section on “Components and accessories”. They point to ANY item that can “reasonably be assessed” to alter or change the flavor of a tobacco product. Well a pipe cleaner (or filter, or lighter, etc certainly doesn’t meet that standard.... or does it? Just look at their examples, they even list CELLOPHANE wrappers on cigars. Somehow that “changes/alters the flavor” because it keeps it relatively fresh, and seals moisture. By those standards, ANY tobacco accessory can be deemed a “tobacco product”. And it already is via taxation. The big question is WILL THEY, and HOW MUCH of a cost increase will happen. To that I say, I don’t trust them, and Im preparing. Worst case, nothing happens and I don’t have to buy cleaners ever again. Best case.... and it’s not really “best”, is that they are deemed tobacco products, and taxed accordingly, resulting in a 600%-1000% increase in price, and Im set and won’t have to pay those prices.)

For someone living in the UK I may be a bit of an anomaly. Started ensuring a cellar about five years ago and was I sometimes only smoke one a week I managed to pick up quite a few tins over the years. Have about 7.7kgs or around 17 pounds of the store at the moment. I am only 41 so I will keep adding but I think I'm set for a number of years even if stopped buying now.

With my one bowl a day habit, with days off for good behavior, my small fits of TAD keep me well ahead of my consumption. If I doubled my tobacco use, I think I'd make it a good five years.

I have also been loading up on pipe cleaners as my favorite ones seem to be out of stock more times than I have ever seen. I have no idea if the FDA is after pipe cleaners, but I am not taking any chances.

For me, it just started out as a “do I have enough”, and not bothering to get up off my duff to walk downstairs to check while making an order for baccy. It just became habit to add cleaners to all my orders. Now it’s just ridiculous, though with my rough math, I think I’ve enough for about fourteen years based upon my smoking and cleaning habits. I average about a bowl and a half to two bowls per day. When I clean my pipes, I use 2 bristle and three or four regular per pipe. Depends upon the blend I smoke. Some aros require quite a few more, which is why I stray from aros. Too much work. Haha

I’m just beginning my cellaring journey. Interesting to see so many people with so much on their hands. PM me and we’ll get me added to your estate plans to make sure your tobacco is well cared for after you’re gone. I’m sure there is an attorney floating around the forum who could help us with that.

In all seriousness, my tobacco in quantity is in cigars at the moment. Glad I finally started pipe smoking a while back and now really getting into it. Still working through many blends to find what I will cellar, but already working on 10-12 blends for the long haul. I expect that to grow, but in time. Probably stop buying 5-10 blends a purchase and now focus on 1 blend in same quantities to begin the mass accumulation. But, I will reach a stopping point in some blends in order to ensure others have the chance to purchase some. Funny - I have watched hoarders several times and not once come across any pipe smokers although many do qualify...Haha.

Good question and surprised at the variety of responses. Good stuff.
