I have roughly 20 lbs., consisting of about 50% bulk, 30% tins, and 20% open jars. I wish I had favored bulk instead of tins when I first started cellaring (I don't have a great preponderance of storage space), but I've remedied that to some degree over the past couple years, to where I feel pretty good about the state of my cellar. Obviously there are just some things that only come in tins, like OGS, but since taking cellaring more seriously in the last two or three years, I've managed to bulk up on all of my favorites, including a menagerie of defunct Mac Baren and Sutliff favorites. I smoke anywhere from 0-5 bowls per week, so this cellar should easily last a lifetime, even if I tripled my intake.

I got a pound of stuff I smoke, and I got a pound of stuff I don't smoke a lot. I only get a bowl or two in during the week, but probly get 20 bowls in on the weekend. I really need to stock up several pounds of my favorite blends, but just haven't been able to yet. The hope is to have it as good as the guys on this forum. 250 pounds!? Dang! Some of these guys got just a ton of tobacco. That's what I need but my wife would probably shoot me

Buy as much as you can afford as soon as possible.
If stored properly (in a sealed mason jar or sealed 7 mil metallized Mylar bag in temp controlled room), it will last many years.

The future of pipe tobacco procurement is grim.
It will never again be priced as low as it is now.
It will never again be as plentiful or easy to get as it is now.
If you have the money and the storage space, buy!

I only smoke a bowl per day and I probably have close to 100 pounds which is a fart in the breeze compared to what others here have.
I’ve been smoking for five years and in that short time I’ve seen prices for everything across the board go up roughly 25%. I also watched Sutliff disappear. More industry consolidation, more regulations, more taxes, less farming are all reasons pipe tobacco will be more expensive and harder to get in the not too distant future.
Here’s an adjacent example:
Just found out today Smoking Pipes dot com just raised their free shipping threshold 25% like yesterday.

It will never be less expensive than it was 2 days ago.

5 years of tins without smoking the same blend again once a tin is finished.
5 years worth of tins (duplicates)
5 years of Bulk.
6 months of what I’m currently smoking replaced roughly monthly tin for tin or bulk for bulk.

So roughly 15 years worth if I stopped replenishing today and enough for me to be happy.
And an excellent reason to live to be 100 :) My plan as well

Yes, I remember your assessment from earlier this year. At the rate I smoke, 2.5 pounds of Plumcake should get me through all my cold weather cravings for a latakia aromatic. I wasn't lying when I said I'm short on storage space (tiny house!). But yes, it's always never enough. 🙃

I have about 25 lbs. total. Not that I will ever use all of that in 10-15 years, but in case laws change or taxes etc. I don't have much more than 5-6 bowls a week on average, but as I clear out about 10 tins worth, I'll buy 10 more. Anything in my top 5, I have about 2 lbs. of each just in case. I definitely front loaded my cellar so that it should never dwindle and I don't store it all in one location. I have a box downstairs, one upstairs and a few tins stashed away in other locations. I probably acquired it all by buying 5-10 tins when I saw sales every few months and it took about 7 years to get up to the level I have now. Basically, I tried a bunch of 1 tin orders and kept a logbook like a nerd and narrowed it down to my top 3 of each type (VA, VAPER, KY, Burley, English) and bought (over time) 2 lbs. of the VA, Burleys and VAPERs for longer storage and 8-16 oz of the rest. I'm still trying new blends and keep it in original tins (with metal tape around the seams) and when opened probably half jars and half mylar. I have a random box of ones that I did not care for but kept to try again later. Part of the fun is trying blends here and there and then slowly adding over time. A giant bulk order would take away that fun.

I am 42 and have ~223 lbs cellared. At this point, I am mostly in the 'replenish what I smoke' mode.

I started my cellar back in 2017 and really started to take it seriously circa 2021. I originally built a lot of it from Esterval's. Then, I switched to US retailers: a few B&M's and SmokingPipes.com, as I wanted to support US retailers.

In my opinion, mylar is king and use that for all of my bulk and specialty tins.

I still buy, but usually wait for sales.

I also still buy the small batch, limited-time offerings to some degree. I want to support our US retailers/manufacturing as much as possible.

I'm 32, smoking pipe for 14 years this autumn. I've had long stints of absence in that time, but I'd managed to put away more than 25lbs until the past year when I put away about another 100 with Sutliff-mania/MacBare-a-pocalypse lol.

At first my cellar was built slowly and shallow with an eclectic mix of stuff I liked, wanted to like, or was limited edition at the time. Blessed to have some older unobtanium stuff including McClelland from this period but again, not deep stocks. Even only a half dozen tins of what was my favorite blend that id kill for just a pound more of (Holiday Spirit).

Anyway, then over the last year or 3 when I made some more money and heard about various limited editions or discontinuations I stocked up pretty quickly and more deep now... favoring more bulk options, especially when it came to Sutliff stuff.
Now I'm backing off and keeping it to mostly boutique blenders or limited editions going forward.

I only have about 10-12 pounds squirreled away, but at my current rate of acquisition I suspect that will become around 30 pounds before end of year. I have decided to focus mostly on bulks that I blend and jar, with only a few tins regularly being added to the stock albeit those tins are mostly of the same blends over and over again.
