I’m just getting back into pipes and have a fair amount of 10 year plus tobacco, a bit over 5 pounds. Curious how much others cellar, how long this should last as I think about refreshing and cellaring going forward. Converting to grams it’s about 2500 grams, so assuming 3 grams a bowl is this about 850? So if I average a bowl a day then a bit over 2 years worth? Guess I should start buying more?

The future of pipe tobacco procurement is grim.
It will never again be priced as low as it is now.

More industry consolidation, more regulations, more taxes, less farming are all reasons pipe tobacco will be more expensive and harder to get in the not too distant future.

About 10 years ago I went through my cellar and estimated the contents.
60 pounds was what I tallied, give or take a few pounds.

Guess I should get started. Unfortunately it does seem hard to get anything I’m familiar with (with many no longer available). As for prices recently, everything is up 25% (as is the M1 money supply). Best brands/producers to focus on? SG, GH, PS?
I've been on here a few years and this comes up regularly.
The answers are always the same.
The predictions always come true.
It will get more expensive.
It will get more difficult to obtain.
Blends will disappear.
Buy what you like.
If you like variety and regularly trying new blends, then buy all you want and can responsibly afford.
I've tried at least 150 blends. Less than a handful would be pleasing for me to enjoy without variety.
I've got 150-200 more blends on my shelves to try.
I enjoy 75% or more of the new ones I try.
I'm fortunate to be able to afford this path, and I'm already "saving $" due to continually increasing prices.
Get as much as you can as soon as you are able and store it properly. I have more than 60lbs cellared and that should last me a very long time. I also trade with others and love that part of this hobby.
Many of us have hundreds of pounds. We bought to hedge against price increase and blends being discontinued. If you have favorites buy as much as you can when you can as they can be gone with no warning.
If you store tobacco well it stay fresh as the day you bought it. The price will only increase the availability will only decrease. I stockpile as much as I can.

6 months of what I’m currently smoking replaced roughly monthly tin for tin or bulk for bulk.
So roughly 15 years worth if I stopped replenishing today and enough for me to be happy.

Jeez...rough estimate probably puts me in the 40-50 lbs range and the rate I've been smoking lately, that should last me until I'm about 150 years old...so I think I'm good.
As others have said, as much as you can. Consider this as well, you may get to a point where you feel like you have enough tobacco to last you the rest of your life based on how much tobacco you currently smoke. You may find yourself in the future doubling how much you smoke at the moment. Also, many smokers increase their smoking volume at retirement. So take into consideration that sometimes there are changes in smoking frequency.
I still am hovering around 20 lbs myself. It's mostly a consequence of wanting to try almost everything and not having enough time. But 1 lb of that is HH Burley Flake (RIP) and 2 lbs is Maple Shadows (RIP), while the rest is mostly 1-2 tins each of various blends.

I usually allocate $100-150 a month for tobacco orders. I have about 5 tobaccos I know that I like and could smoke all day everyday so I just stock up on that. I have probably about 30lbs of tobacco cellared up, more than I will smoke over the next ten years for sure since I only smoke about 3-4 times a week.
True, a lot go the other way too, cut back. I’ve gone from 1.5-2lbs a year to around 3/4s-1.
