Yup. That right there was every day back in 2014-16 with the heavy hitters showing off what they bought. And the TAD posts were just icing on the cake. Just when it stated to die down a bit, McClelland shuttered and the next cellaring craze was on. And throughout was the pressure to seek out and score as many esoterica blends as one could. Lol

You cannot buy too much, and in this group there will always be found the motivation/justification/compulsion to get another 5 pounds... lol
Well……. You’re starting to make me want to buy a few more pounds with that type of positivity thinking.

I know I have way too much relative to the amount i smoke let's say per month but I justify it by the fact that I know it's never going to get any cheaper so I'd rather stock up now.

I've spent the past year experimenting and learning what I like, collecting 87 blends of which I've smoked 69. The blends I've definitely liked I have bought at least a couple more tins of (usually shooting for four unopened plus a half-pint ball jar to smoke from). But I've definitely reached the constriction phase of my journey -- let 13 blends go so far, and have increased my cellared tobacco for the blends I particularly love to an average of eight tins (or 1 lb loose). Currently hovering around 32 pounds total. Given the space constraints and my desire to continue trying new blends while enjoying the core set, I can see myself maybe peaking at around 50 pounds give or take. Time will tell.

I began with calculating how much tobacco I would need for having a 10 year cellar, smoking 500 bowls a year at 4 grams a bowl, which totals for about 20kgs or 45 pounds. At average about 225 a kilo I would need about 5K for that 20kg. You cant buy in bulk, houseblends are non obtainable, everything is tinned. I also had the ideal of buying 10 blends I really like into that cellar. I didnt set a target for when I wanted to reach that goal. I started to buy a hodgepodge of blends based on tobacco contents and try them out. After two years the hodgepodge only grew and have released the wish to collect 10 blends into that cellar. 2 blends reached the 2 kg status which I bought early and knew I wanted to keep them, now if I like something I buy 5 tins of it.

To get to the question, what is enough? Al depending on your goal, do you just want to collect a stash for later, have a exquisite collection of expensive tobacco, do you reach for unobtainiums all the time or are you fine with codger blends? At a later stage you can determine that aging blend ABC for X amount of time is optimum and how much you wish to reach for it. So the answer is always 42.

Do you have a method for keeping track of which tobaccos are in which boxes? I'm storing in the Ball jar boxes as well and have been trying to come up with something.
No. I've done a modicum of organization, i.e. All trying to keep brands together, keep pipes and paraphernalia separate from tobacco, etc., but that just helps me find the right neighborhood when searching for something. This stash also doesn't include the open tins/jars and recent acquisitions, which are in my office.

If I really knew what all I have, it would take all the mystery out of life.
Pretty sure I have penguin on top of a television set down there, too.

Life is uncertain so cellar what you can afford. Also eat dessert first!
I've always been a firm believer in the adage "better to have what you don't need than need what don't have." I enjoy variety so I'm happy to have a variety of options for whatever I'm in the mood for. My cellar and open jars are very paltry compared to most people here, but at my current rate of smoking I'll never run out if I keep buying more and it would take several years to smoke up what I currently have. My cellar grew exponentially last month in light of recent events. When I write my will I'm going to include instructions on selling my unsmoked tobacco online so my heirs can enjoy the profits, that's assuming I don't make make any irl pipe smoking friends in which case I'll just will it to them.
I just went through my cellar the other day to re-organized what I had. I'm only at about 20 pounds, but I also buy cigars and have a decent number on hand, so my purchases are split between the two. If not for the cigars, I'd probably have 3 or 4 times that amount. Still at the rate I smoke my pipes, my current cellar will last over 10 years.
My Tupperdor has about 25 right now which is past capacity. I haven't bought any since the last year's Fuente Holiday drop, or smoked any since November. Most of the year I alternate between pipes and cigars but in the winter I switch to pipes entirely except for the occasional cigar lounge visit.

I primarily smoke my pipes from October through April, and have an occasional cigar; whereas May through September I primarily smoke cigars with an occasional pipe.

Eh, maybe searching through the bins is half the fun!
