I own one nice dress shirt. The rest of my clothes are work and general wear clothes. All not these (including the nice dress shirt) have burn holes.

Trashed many a Nike and Under Armour dri fit shirt from cigar and pipe ash. Cigars are far worse than pipes.
The only burning accident I had with a pipe was the time a gust of wind blew a lock of my hair into a fresh ember. Worst ghost ever by the way.

yes fire and sleepiness don't mix. It's amazing how many people die or get severely injured by smoking in bed or while very drunk.
Come to think of it, most of holes are due to dozing off and a pipe slipping off teeth. There were few sneezes while clenching too. And overfilled chamber and ember falling off.
Now I have had it happen from cigars.
After trashing a couple of shirts with flying embers and dottle spillage, I now put on my smoking clothes before I light up…no elegant smoking jacket, just an old cotton t-shirt and shorts.

In my early years of pipe smoking just about every shirt I owned seemed to have a pinhole or two, now, I'm pinhole free!

During a summer job at a shipyard, I wore out gloves every two weeks. While grinding seams, the sparks often ignited my gloves. After two near death events, I decided not to return the next year.
I don't remember ever burning holes in my clothes, while smoking. Basically, I sit in a chair and contemplate.

None, I swear all them burns are from welding and torch.
Since I'm not a clencher, I save my shirts by burning/blistering my hands!

Both of them.
I've worked on soup, coffee, wine, and pasta sauce stains on my shirts from time to time, but now I feel like I am living on borrowed time with these cinder holes. I mean to be careful and methodical in terms of fire safety, and I try to be mindful in terms of not trying to smoke when sleepy. This thread is a good reminder.
