That's some piece there, Mr. Lax! Wow.

Great woodworking, or use of nicely patterned synthetic.
Thanks! It's not really our style, our house features hardwoods but I just didn't know if that perfect 366 day Dunhill like pipe chest was ever going to happen so I bought it. I don't know what veneer is? From the original MSRP I assume it's a quality wood veneer. I'll probably take a drawer around to find out and to see what my options are in addressing the fading.
That is simply a gorgeous piece filled with gorgeous pieces!
Thanks! I just thew in what I had in the "Action Pac" for the picture. I'm looking forward to getting the collection out of their boxes on a bookshelf and "nesting" them in their new home. ?

Well let’s try this again, I posted this a few minutes ago and attempted to delete a duplicate photo and deleted the entire post.

Finally found a cabinet for my pipes. Not as big as I was looking for but it will work for now and I am always looking for the next project. My primary focus was a place to store my pipes with vulcanite stems out of the light.

The upper area was made for ashtrays but the recessed areas fit mason jars well. I think I might put my favorites in this area in mason jars and spin it around when I need to fill my pipe.

The lower area has 2 doors capable of holding 8 pipes with additional storage behind the doors. The doors are not mounted in the photos, I will post additional photos when they have been mounted.

This was pretty rough when I picked it up and spent some time on Sunday refinishing it. It is still drying which is why the doors have not been reinstalled.

Based on what I found online this type of cabinet was made from the 40’s to the late 60’s.

does any one else have a cabinet like this?

My set up is nothing to fancy. I keep all of my better artisan pipes with vulcanite stems in my Savinelli 36 count rack. It is made of Burl Wood and has tinted glass doors and holes on the sides to let it breath. If I could find another one I would buy it as it takes up little space. I bought mine over 20 years ago and haven't seen another for over 15. The rest of my pipes sit in a 12 count rack and a bunch of 6's. My living room where they hang out is protected from light as all the doors and glass in my home is tinted and protects against the sun fairly well. Also my large glass doors face north. Here is a pic of my really organized mess.

My pipes are stored in bowls, racks and several piles in a room that doesn't get natural light - at least not direct light. I'll occasionally use socks if traveling.

Ken Barnes makes the best ones, but you have to buy a (fabulous) pipe of his to get one....

I was at a bass pro opening and they had cheap pistol cases for $5. They hold 5-8 pipes and are sturdy and protective. The rest of my pipes are in cases, socks, etc and are in the same room, but not as organized. I also have a hard case with several meers. And cobs are all over the place. Got 4 bags of the good seconds before everyone bought them all up.20200713_194042.jpg in it.

Wow! There are some really nice setups in this thread. I've got you all neat though.

I've got hundreds, if not thousands of pipes. I keep them all at various online vendors and B&M's. When I want to see one I just search for it. Best of all my collection and storage are free! It does make them a little harder to smoke though...

Gentlemen, all I can say is I am fully impressed. Some by piece, some by ingenuity and some by simplicity. Surely one size (or design) does not fit all, yet what an obviously devoted group nonetheless! Hats off to all who posted pics! Here's my recent find in the process of being re-felted.
