I really need to take up yoga.
I was scared of yoga at first. I've always associated it with Hindu and enlightenment. And, I've seen enlightened people down in the city. People all bright eyed, enlightened, sleeping in the park, eating out of garbage cans, living all free and shit. So, when my wife twisted my arm to get me to try yoga, I told, "sure, I'll give it a go, but if I end up enlightened, I'm kicking someone's ass." puffy

I enjoyed it. I still stretch and do breathing stuff, but as far as sticking with a routine, nah. But, at least I'm not as terrified of that enlightenment stuff.

Being an illustrator, you really need that. Sitting for a long time is bad in all sorts of ways. A lot of people think that my bladesmithing and blacksmithing would keep me in shape, but other than a hammer arm workout, it’s actually mostly sedentary work. Lots of standing at a grinder, sitting at a bench doing fit and finish work. And then at my “real job,” teaching school, I normally walk around the room most of the day, checking students’ work, but now with COVID, we were told we can’t do that. So I’m sitting all day. ?
Sitting is horrible! I love what I do and feel fortunate. But sitting is harder on my body than any other work I have done.

That sucks you can't walk the room like you like. I visit a lot of schools to give presentations, well before Covid... I can relate to teacher's just I one spot all day for sure.

That's my theory. I really need to take up yoga. I do some basic stretching during the day and after walks just to stay loose. But I think I would benefit from something a little more structured.
I got into yoga after suffering from severe sciatica for 6+ months. It works where nothing else did. I'd had the steroid injections at the spine, other treatments, didn't do diddley squat.
Two weeks into yoga class the pain let off, literally faded away in the middle of a lower back stretch. It did come back later that day, but it proved the point to me. About two more weeks and the sciatica faded away without coming back.
As long as I do my stretches I'm fine. It's been 14 years without any issues.

Good for you! Some people just let it go and suffer, not trying to improve their situation with issues like that. I have had bouts of sciatica, that is some kinda pain!

I get neck and leg cramps badly if I don't take walks a stretch periodically. On occasion a have to hunker down and miss getting out 2-3 days at a time. It seems to take weeks to get myself sorted out again. I really need to get into a yoga class.

I don't have to do anything. My overactive metabolism has kept my weight between 114 and 120 since I was a teenager. I have to take in 4000+ calories/day to maintain that weight or I start losing weight. It also keeps my LDL nearly immeasurable and my body fat at 0%.

I had a friend like that. Eat anything any time never gained an ounce.

Go take yourself for a pizza and banana split for the rest of us!?

My hobbies and activities require me to be fit to enjoy them.

Dirtbiking, hiking/backpacking, fixing/maintaining/cleaning things, motorcycle track days, big into SKIING.

I have adjustable dumbells and a bench at home, which I use to do a little bit of upper-body stuff, but very rarely to be honest.

I used to run but stopped due to the toll it takes on my bum knees. I've switched to running uphill and that has fixed that and has seriously changed my life.
Awesome lifestyle! It's good when your hobbies keep you fit. I enjoy exercising, I'm not sure it's a hobby.?

As a production artist I'm sitting in front of a computer with a Wacom tablet in my lap for hours on end. I do break that up with stretches and the occasional lunt. Never was an issue before digital, since I stood all day before my easel.
My recommendation to start is to avoid "power" yoga or flow. Look for a traditional yoga studio, even better if it has restorative yoga, which is gentle. You can always work your way up into more challenging, and quite possibly damaging, forms of pop yoga.

Sounds like a plan!?

Actually just had my third meal of the day. Will eat two more full sized meals at work and will probably hit I-HOP in the morning after I clock out ?

I have to use a wheel chair and a walker. I used to stay in shape by playing lots of tennis in the Florida heat and only played singles. I also used to shoot hoops now and again. Played some street hockey, played catch with Lacrosse sticks with my oldest son, also played golf .
After 3 back surgeries, the last being spinal fusion with lots of metal, I was toast. I also had 2 foot surgeries, 1 shoulder, 1 wrist. All from playing sports. I have severe stenosis in my back and neck. Viscous Neuropathy in my feet and legs. I also have early onset dementia from all the drugs done in the late 60's to nineties.
It is a wonder I am still alive but I can take a beating. I have had kidney stones over a dozen times. I had Bells Palsy 3 times, Viral Meningitis 2 times, pneumonia 4 times. It is a miracle I am still breathing. I not complaining as I had a great time, I have 4 great kids and I got to travel a good deal.

Soy de esas personas que no saben correr correctamente. La última vez que intenté correr me destrocé la espalda de alguna manera. No he intentado correr desde entonces.

Is simply using natural body movement........the same as when you walk slowly....
