Starting to Get Obsessed
Well, I just moved to Colorado, about 90 min west of Colorado Springs, up in the mountains west of Pike's Peak. We have not gone sub-zero yet, but we have gotten in the teens. I have been too busy unpacking to do much smoking, but I finally broke out the box of Pipe Stuff and was able to sit and enjoy a couple.

I am acclimating to the weather, but it was definitely uncomfortable after about 10 min. I like the idea of throwing up some temp walls and a propane heater on the deck. But I also go my wife to agree to let me smoke in the basement on a "trial basis". She doesn't mind the smoke, per say, but we both dislike the idea of the smoke permeating EVERYTHING.

For what it's worth, I smoke inside regularly and the smell only lingers in the air for about half a day, if that. It doesn't seem to cling to walls/clothes/furniture like cigarette smoke would.

Here in New Jersey what bothers me is not the heat in the summer but the humidity that makes everything sticky and in the winter the dampness (humidity again) that permeates thru no matter how many layers you are wearing. Just not enjoyable in those conditions, for me. puffy

I only smoke outside, by my own choice. 50 degrees F is pretty much my low end. Right now it's 11 degrees outside. Won't be much smoking for me til Spring.
(I probably will sneak down in my little room in the basement with a small churchwarden on Christmas. :) )

If I'm going outside for the sole purpose of smoking a pipe I'd say anything below freezing might be my cutoff. If I'm outside for snow removal or playing in the wood stack, it doesn't matter what the temperature is. If I'm going to be puttering around outside anyway, I'm going to light up a chore pipe. I suppose if I had a fire going in the pit, I could also be ok with colder. I am shopping around for a patio heater though so I may be out more often this winter.

50's out there now... It's too cold to go out and smoke a cigar for 2 hours. Smoking a cigar this afternoon was my plan, but screw that.

I'll stay inside and keep on with the cigarettes and my pipe for the day.

I lost the war about cigars inside... It waged on for years and I lost. At least the war is over.
Pipe and cigarettes are allowed inside, but cigars are not?

Treaty? Reparations? Bribery? Inquiring minds want to know! 😁

It was just a total loss.

She said... Or rather screamed, that cigars made the walls brown and that they smell like shit.

She said she'd move outside, or better yet make me move out there.

It was a big loss... but life goes on. I guess before too long she'll have me making sandwiches and doing laundry.
