I think that we all are addicited to tobacco, some more then others. I do it for both. I do it as a healthier alternative to ciggs, and because I like the flavor, aroma, and I like collecting pipes

Without question, I am addicted to nicotine. However, I get most of it from smokeless. I feel the "hobby" comes into pipes when you get enjoyment from experimenting with different pipe/tobacco combinations and discovering new blends. That element does not exist in other tobacco categories. You won't see forums where people discuss calling tobacco shops across the country trying to track down a certain cig that everyone is excited about. People smoke cigs for nicotine..period. There is much more to piping which definitely makes it a hobby or lifestyle. My .02

Hobby for me, when in craving a blend I don't have on me and I try to smoke anyways, I can't finish a bowl. I can also go a few days before I remember to smoke. I think those addicted were probably addicted to nails before they ever started the pipe. Makes a huge difference in my opinion.

Addicted to nicotine here. But I quit the cigs in June after starting with the pipe. Also it is more enjoyable. I must say I have referred to it as a hobby on this forum. Not knowing how I should .

For me it's a hobby and a protest against governments that try to control our behavior.
If it became an addiction I would quit.

I'm in it for the flavors in my mouth from the many Balkan blends I have. That relax's me. I don't wake up and have to light up. I'll maybe have 3 bowls throughout the day. If I go somewhere, I have to have the pipe with me. Just in case I'm stuck waiting and want to light up to make the time pass. I enjoy EL REY DEL MUNDO cigars a couple times a week as well. Depends on what I'm doing. If I need my hands free, I'll opt. for the cigar.

Addicted to nic here, pipes are the most enjoyable and relaxing way to get the nic. Collecting and caring for my pipes I guess could be considered a hobby. If i didn't get nic from my pipes I would get it somewhere else. Tobacco is my vice, pipes are my obsession. :puffy:

Despite arguments to the contrary, it's a hobby for me. I enjoy smoking the pipe and the flavor of the tobacco. I mostly enjoy the fact that it forces me to sit and reflect. I find it's one of the few times I can not be worrying about some other thing going on in my life. I usually only smoke on weekends, normally a pipe on Friday evening and another on Sunday afternoon, while the kids play outside. I don't really care much for high nicotine blends. I like something like 1792 Flake for the flavor, but can't smoke a lot of it, even on a full stomach. I suppose a small hit of nicotine is okay, kind of like why I drink half caff coffee.

Hobby.
The amount of nicotine does not select my tobacco. The flavor does.
Edit: I'll liken it to reading a book. "Freetime Entertainment".

I would say both with a leaning towards hobby. I enjoy stronger nic blends and definitely enjoy the euphoric feeling from smoking them. That said, I don't have to smoke a pipe and when I cannot, it is no big deal. When I do want a pipe and cannot smoke, its mostly psychological because it relaxing and removes stress, not a physical need for the nicotine.
+1 Spartan. I enjoy Mac Baren Navy Flake due to its flavor, but find it very light in the nic arena. But I also enjoy Stonehaven and Dark Flake/Plug because of the flavor.

There's no question that it's a habit with me, part of my daily ritual. I'm not sure whether or not I'm addicted to nicotine. There are days when I just can't smoke for one reason or other, and I don't seem to crave it or dwell on it during those times. I've not had to go without for more than a day, though.
Pipe smoking is certainly not a hobby to my way of thinking. I would consider related activities like pipe collecting, restoring, carving, etc. (none of which I do) as hobbies, but if smoking is all you do then I wouldn't call it a hobby. Kinda like calling drinking a hobby...

I rubbed copenhagen for 24 years. Chewed too. I got divorced in 05 and I started dating. Woman don't exactly like a man that carries around a spittoon and has a lip full of black crap, so i picked up smoking nails. I only smoked like 5 a day though because i was embarrassed to publicly smoke, plus i didnt want my kids to ever see me do it. I never enjoyed cigs. I had actually quit all tobacco products for a year and a half. So i decided to try a pipe and i like it. It will probably be a little of both for me...
