I like 5100 Red Cake, but by far 40th Anniversary is my first choice. I only have one tin and only smoke one bowl on New Years Day as my first smoke of the year. Tin should last me a long time.
I share the sentiment. If the answer is that the best McClelland Virginia is a vintage rarity, I'd question what value that has for someone who doesn't necessarily value Virginias to begin with. Wouldn't a better question be: what easily-available currently-produced high-quality Virginia would be suitable to make me a "fan" of Virginias?Forgive me but why do you want to hunt down a McClelland Va when you've already said you don't like VAs blends? Sounds like wasted money to me.

Last Saturday, Mike was asked if he still smokes a pipe or solely cigarettes, and if so, which McClelland blend does he smoke. He replied that he does smoke a pipe and IIRC he said #27 was what he smoked most frequently. I think he mentioned one other, but I am not sure what it was.Mike McNiel once told me that McClelland's No. 27 Matured Virginia was his all-time biggest seller in that particular series.
Thanks for the replies.
I'm trying to learn to like VAs.
I did smoke a curly cut Wessex that was very orange colored and enjoyed that quite a bit just a day or two ago. I've had good smokes with PS Luxury Navy and Golden Sliced, just nothing as immediately transcendent as many of the English and Balkans I've smoked.
And yes I would also take recommendations for what the best currently available VAs are to get my tongue around.
Thanks for the replies guys.
