Please put your location in your Profile!
Why: It will save time for others when you mention local stores, weather, tobacco prices, availability, regulations, location of photos, wildfires, air quality, etc.
How: Under your avatar, (top right, left most of three symbols) you choose "Account Details", which brings up "My Account". "My Location" is halfway down.

I passed by your neighborhood en route to camping at Campo Alto in August. Frazier Park looks like a nice place to be away from the LA craziness.
Yes and no. It's definitely an escape of sorts, but there are other problems that creep into the mix to replace the ones you lose when you relocate to these parts. But that's probably the case no matter where you move, so I try not to get too bothered by those things. Still, having lived the first 30 years of my life in urban Los Angeles, I'm glad I got out when I did, and I think this life suits me just fine compared to the old one.

Campo Alto is very close to where we used to live in Pine Mtn. Club. That drive is quite hairy during the winter, as you might imagine!

Hello everyone! I've been smoking pipes for about 15 years now. I originally picked up the hobby because a bunch of my literary favorites—Chesterson, Tolkien, Hemingway, Lewis, etc—smoked pipes (or cigars), and young-me thought joining the club would make me cool. 😆

As far as blends go, I was fortunate (or perhaps unfortunate) to discover Syrian latakia right at the end of its availability, and I quickly fell in love with it. I still have a large-but-dwindling supply of GLP / McClelland Syrian blends and am not looking forward to the day when I run out! All-time favorites are McC Three Oaks Syrian, McC Syrian Full Balkan, and GLP Renaissance. Non-latakia favorites would be Esoterica Stonehaven, GLP Haddo's Delight, GLP Cairo, and SG FVF.

I'm also a devotee of acrylic stems on pipes and refuse to smoke out of ebonite. This means my collection has historically been mostly Petersons from certain lines, Savinellis, and a handful of artisan carvers who work with acrylic. However, I've recently realized that I can send off ebonite-stemmed pipes to have custom acrylic replicas cut for them, so my options have opened up a bit. I realize this is probably excessive, but I hate the constant stem maintenance almost as much as the oxidized sulphur taste. 😅

Anyway, not sure why I never joined up here before, but I'm looking forward to getting to know you all!

It’s interesting to read someone say that they abhor Vulcanite and only use acrylic stems. People here usually say the opposite.
Personally I’m neutral on the matter. Both work for me as long as the material is of high quality.

Ha, yes, most people are either “vulcanite only” or “don’t mind one way or another”, so I’m a bit of an outlier!

Welcome from Wisconsin!

I agree with you about loving acrylic. I also hate ebonite and the maintenance. Some think it is too hard, but I appreciate that as I am a clincher and tear up ebonite quite often. You mention Petersons, I think you pick the lines with acrylic. Peterson's often use Vulcanite, which I also avoid.
