Is there an emoji of wide eyed shock. Because that's the one I need. Many they don't help but that city could still inspire constant walking even without the cabs.
I guess I’m just used to it lol. One advantage of smoking a pipe while driving is that it keeps the driving finger occupied so I resort to pointing my pipe JK, it does keep me calm and frequent stops make for good tamping opportunities lol. I’ve learned how to stop people from trying to cut me off, there is no tailgating in the city it’s called defensive driving lol.

sounds horrible. Then again I love how I know people that grew up in New York and learned to drive there and they sound like you, put them on a backwoods road and it freaks them the heck out.

It's possible to be at home with virtually every driving situation.

My worst driving experience: El Paso to Santa Fe at night with a high Eastern wind blowing snow and sleet across the single lane highway. NYC is a piece of cake compared to that.

Yeah driving the work van around Westchester and Long Island during and after hurricane Sandy was the worst driving I’ve had to do. After stopping for falling trees stopping for deer while driving through PA isn’t as exciting anymore lol.

Ah, you've just reminded me of another aspect of driving: heavy traffic. Stop and go. Crawl. Then stop. Being assaulted by multiple honking horns for no reason other than frustration. Creep, stop, creep, stop. In many ways, worse than black ice, howling winds, driving snow, mushy roads. Many a weekend driving to and from NYC to the South fork. And the occasional foray into LALA Land.

Check out the "New York Pipe Club" for other kindred spirits and additional brothers-of-the-briar. This fraternal group used to (pre COVID) meet in your neck of the woods, lower Manhattan, once a month, to shoot the breeze and to enjoy a few hours of smoldering camaraderie. Nice bunch of guys and a few gals, too.

Also, pre-COVID...there was a Pipe Show in Newark, NJ each March. But that was then, and this is now. Hoping the Pipe Show re-opens in March 2022.
I'll definitely look into it, thanks!

is it as bad as everyones saying over there?

Thinking about you all a lot!
Thank you.
It's a subject that would get me in hot water with the mods here should I speak my mind; suffice to say, yes, I'm either living in a fascist Nanny State or the Twilight Zone.

Any good tobacco shops in that part of NY?
good? well, you can get esoterica, sobranie, at Barclay Rex from time to time, and the price for that wont be bad, like 35 bucks a tin... but if you go right now, they will sell you st bruno for 35 bucks, or a tin of peterson for 35 bucks...

the taxes here would make any english royal swell...

I don't know how Iwan Ries survives, except that they long ago rented out the first floor and moved upstairs, so they get the high rental retail income and still have exposure to street traffic, plus they have contacts going back to the beginning of tobacco pipes. I think they maintain a pipe inventory of about 15,000 pipes there on Wabash in Chicago.

Pipe smoker from lower manhattan. Was a Nat Sherman customer since the 90s but they've closed; which is bad, but found there's a huge pipe community online; which is good!

I usually smoke a cob with a balkan, pure va, a vaper, or some Nat Sherman 509 manhattan twilight after a big meal.
Welcome from Alabama
