@xray

At least in Indiana if a officer comes on your property and is requested to leave they must do so unless 1 someone is in imedit danger of sevear injury or loss of life 2 they know with out a doubt a crim is in the process of being commited. Ive lived in serveral states and they have all been that way. as if not its a phishing expadation and nothing could be used in cort.

Best thing to do when confronted by a curious/nosy smoking Gestapo who drops the stupid "what's in your pipe" question on your head:
- immediately act surprised and hide your pipe behind your back

- cough out the smoke in your mouth

- adopt a Jeff Spiccoli voice

- response should be "uhhhhh... I don't know man, just some stuff"

- throw in a couple confused laughs for good measure to accentuate the coughing

- introduce yourself as "The Avocado Man"

- walk away very quickly doing your impression of Frampton's voice box guitar from "Do You Feel Like We Do"
Gets 'em every time

jaysin, your #1 condition makes zero sense when you add your #2. If they're allowed to stay if "a crime" is being committred, it makes no sense to mention "immediate danger of severe injury or loss of life."
I'd like to see a cite for your claims. I doubt Indiana has any laws different than other states. If a police officer is legally on your property (see dhizzy's post) he does not have to leave if he has a reasonable suspicion that a crime is being committed- he doesn't have to "know with out a doubt." That's an unreasonable requirement for an officer to perform his duties in any situation.

When i wrote this post, it was meant to badger my neighbor not the responding officer (other than the blinding light). I said Fuzz just because i thought it would get a few more chuckles.

Bottom line stuip neighbors, freindly cops.

side note, have 3 friends with the sheriffs station and a brother in law who is a Sargent.

adam12 don't forget to suddenly shove your hand into your coat pocket, they LOVE that! Bonus points if he doesn't shoot you.

I'd find out which neighbor called the cops and then go out of my way for the rest of the year making their life inconvenient.

Sad that the cops would even respond to a call for someone smoking weed...I've never heard of it happening here in Toronto...but for the love of god don't get caught smoking a cigarette in a bar ! =))

My response to "what's in that pipe" is indeed the Spicoli voice in which I usually say "whoa man, like some awesome Latakiam dude."

Being an 18 year old who smokes a pipe I get this kind of thing all the time. I'll be at my college campus puffing on my pipe and sipping my coffee when I'll get those white guys with dreadlocks with the saggy pants smiling and nodding at me. It's just plain obnoxious. I mean who the heck would smoke dope out of a tobacco pipe? The bowl is enormous and that would probably make you pass out.
I also have been bugged by the cops several times. I was puffing my pipe at a park and I saw a police car stop, the officer got out and walked over and said "What are you smoking in that pipe?" I paused for a second and replied "Captain Black pipe tobacco"
I also have a youtube channel, and get comments all the time if I'm doing a video on pipes or cigars. It seems people automatically assume that since I'm 18 and smoke a pipe that I'm smoking narcotics. One guy said on one of my videos "Hey bra' what strain are you smoking?" I replied "Half and Half pipe tobacco" in a sarcastic manner.
I don't get it, is dope the first thing that comes to mind when you see a young pipe smoker? I don't dress like a dope smoker, nor to I talk like one. I wear jeans, a clean T-Shirt often with pro-gun phrases on it, and a cowboy hat. At least I don't think I look like a dope smoker IMO.
Y'all take care!

So sorry that happened to you gwynclan. Personally, if i had a neighbor call the cops on me for smoking my pipe on my deck, i would feel compelled to go full George Costanza; I would be out on that deck at every available moment smoking just to spite them!
