Seems the cops have lots of time on their hands with nothing better to do than follow-up on a low priority call.

Sound to me like the cop was pretty dang profesional and understanding in this case. The police get countless numbers of B.S. calls everyday but they still have to look into them or people will gripe about how lazy we are and that we are not doing our jobs. If you see something at your neighbors house that you feel the police should be called on...you call and expect them to show up. With 163 killed last year we try slimply to make it home at the end of our shift. Lays off the cops.

Cops have to answer every call. The meddlesome neighbor probably got the ole stink eye from officer "Got called out on this BS". They hate having to go out to nonsence calls as much as you hate them to bother you over it. he seemed real reasonable about you situation. Now thats the end of me defending the police because most of the time they act like a bunch of jackbooted thugs. That are worse than many criminals.

Out in California I dont think cops get called on pot smokers any more? Every one who wants to smoke green has a card, or as I like to call it, "A license to ill" 8)
A baseball coach yelled at me saying I should be arrested for smoking that shit(captain black) when I was walking the dog. I gave him the one finger salute and kept on my merry way. I heard some one tell him," It is tobacco you idiot!" as I walked away. I got a chuckle out of that one.

I would hope they prioritize the calls somehow. Even if it had been a pot smoker I would count that as a very low priority over domestic violence or something like that.

Sometimes they just take a particular call because they happen to be in the area. If there's a complaint, one of them has to respond to it, even if it's a stupid one. If a more important call had come through, they probably would have put the nosey neighbor call on the back burner, did a drive-by later and said, "Oh darn, he's gone."
In this case it was probably, "Oh, he's right over here. What do you say? Wanna check out 'pipe guy'?"

"Fine."

"Hey buddy, what ya smokin'? Oh, tobacco? See ya later!"

Cooperate unless you believe they're overstepping their power. On the whole I think cops are great people, but they do have to assume every call can potentially be a life of death situation, and this approach every call with some degree of caution... so don't do anything stupid.
Sounds to me like you had a polite chat with a police officer.
Nothing more.

Well then I agree wholeheartedly on the stupid neighbor thing.
One sniff outside would tell him/her it's not what she/he thought it was.

Spartan: telling people to "cooperate unless you believe they're overstepping their power" is horrible advice...many times people believe that police are acting against their authority, however, those individuals may have no grasp of the law that they are violating...just because a person "believes" that police are wrong does not justify them not following a police officer's instruction...i'm not sure if you reside in the states but fortunately our country provides for protections against those situations where thugs don a uniform and call themselves an "officer"...follow up that wrongful arrest with a 42 U.S.C. § 1983 suit and walk away with a few million dollars and hopefully that officer removed from duty or worse...just looking out for my fellow pipe smokers...

Then why the use of the pejorative "fuzz"?

^ I don't think most people find use of the word "fuzz" as being pejorative. It's a slightly humorous word because of it being looked at as being somewhat outdated. If he said "pigs" I'd agree with you.

First mastake answering anything. No warrent to be on your proerty gtf off it and come back with a warrent signed by a judge spelling out what your looking for.

^ The OP didn't make any mistakes, jaysin. A warrant is not need to be on someone's property in most cases (may be different if going through a closed gate/fence) and in some cases an officer can even enter a dwelling without a warrant.

Honestly, I don't soke my clay out front or on walks because the police (or nosey neighbors) could mistake the little pipe for a "One Hitter". Too bad because a real pipe smoker would probably see it and start up a conversation.

It doesn't strike me the wrong way at all. Some it may, but I'd say they need to thicken their skin up a bit to be a LEO.

Being pretty well versed in search and seizure I can tell you that as a LEO, your front door is considered a semi public area where it is acceptable for someone to come onto your property. The prosecutor tells us, if you can legally be where the UPS man can be, you are fine. If it is clear that you don't use your front door but the side or back instead and that is commonplace, then I am legal to go there as well. All situations are different and can't be rubber stamped. "Right of access" is constantly debated and can become very complicated.
