I clicked on a local news story involving a fentanyl death.

Here's a screenshot of the article's photo header and its first written line, along with The Friendly, Helpful, and Endlessly Presumptive AI Goggle-Monster's offer to help me buy some of my own! :)

I didn't click the button, but now wonder what would have happened if I did.

A few years ago I looked up why fentanyl was even legal at all, and discovered it’s actually a miracle drug that no emergency room or hospice or nursing home could function without.

For severe, intractable pain, and especially for dying cancer patients it replaces expensive opium poppy based narcotics, since about 1968. It’s dirt cheap, and replaces much more costly substitutes.

Fentanyl - Wikipedia - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fentanyl

You aren’t going to be able to buy it legally without a prescription and you won’t get it prescribed unless you are in a bad, bad way.;)

The world cannot uninvent fentanyl.

Listen to Nancy Reagan, you’ll be fine.:)

I would install AdBlock on your browser if you haven't already,.George. I searched for "fentanyl" and "fentanyl buy" and "fentanyl" under the shipping tab and I didn't get any links to purchase anything (other than "fentanyl-proof" rubber gloves).

Those ads aren't Google, though Google happily takes their money, and they lead God-knows-where.

I understand fentanyl may have a place in the hospital but there is too much of it on the streets. I’ve lost many close friends to overdoses from it.

All and every one, from people buying what they know is a bootleg drug from a drug peddler.

The tragedy of fentanyl is how cheap it is.

Third world countries can make it for the same cost as asprin and it sells for $10 a pill.

The greatest danger is fentanyl being used to “spike” other illicit drugs, or imported as unregulated veterinary drugs (such as ivermectin).

Everybody laughed at Nancy Reagan when she said Just Say No.

But she was right, just forty years early.

The dad blasted gubbermint is not your Mama. But about 100,000 Americans will go to the graveyard this year, because people don’t listen to our government and not buy any drug except from a pharmacy with a prescription.

When I was a kid a few old timers would take veterinary medicines because they were ignorant, and their mothers were dead and couldn’t slap sense into them any more.

Today it’s an epidemic of our own making.

That’s just it. People do not know what they are buying. Dealers are lacing drugs with fentanyl at lethal levels.

I’m not excusing the free choices people make. However, I hate the destruction it brings to so many.

Then let’s pass a law where every child has to be born to two loving parents in a good Christian home bursting with books and attend a world class public school like Humansville Missouri was sixty years ago.

There’s no problem that the old time Christian religion and crackerjack good public schools cannot fix. And no law can ever mandate it.

Legal alcohol and soon to be legal marijuana is a menace to the public health.

But nobody dies from it, with one dose.

I cannot imagine taking any drug of any kind, not prescribed and bought at a pharmacy.

The local Amish decided to quit selling ivermectin except to horse owners during Covid.

This nation thinks there’s a short cut to good medicine.

And on the other hand, most people get angry when the doctor DOESNT have them take 10 blood tests, and get an MRI to diagnose a broken arm.

iVe had foreign doctors that could not explain how aspirin works. but they were allowed to perform surgery on people here in the USA.

But the issue is NOT that drug dealers are putting fentanyl into other drugs for sale. If a person is "intelligent enough" to decide that smoking a 5$ crystal of meth is a good idea, its no loss to the world if they over dose.

The real issue is that the chinese are smuggling so much of it.

I’m wondering if the real purpose of AI isn’t to simply deluge us with highly suspect information. To dismantle our shared reality and have us doubt everything. Or maybe to present each of us with a curated reality.

The purpose of AI is to help us all die of old age in our beds.

Last night in St Louis, my wife’s Suburban had three systems that helped me drive home.

If I got too close to a car in front, my seat shook and a light flashed.

If strayed outside my lane, the seat shook and a light flashed.

On each mirror are warning lights. If an overtaking car is in a blind spot the lights flash.

Newer models will hit the brakes if too close to a car ahead, and will guide the vehicle in the lane.

In few years all those cars will “talk” to each other and won’t allow collisions.

The problem will come from evil men who program them to crash.:)

The AI genie is out of the bottle and left the barn.:)

As I understand the problem, legal fentenyl is a godsend and blessing and and cheap as aspirin and there isn’t any problem with controlled, prescribed use for severe pain.

It replaces the far less potent but more expensive actual opioids which have been abused for centuries.

A clandestine lab to make fentenyl costs less than the brand new delivery truck used to ship it. The recipe is in every pharmaceutical text book. The ingredients are cheap and available all around the world.

If the Chinese make fentenyl it’s pure, and medical grade.

If South American cartels make it it might be 90% pure or 3% pure. It might be all horse tranquilizer.

Chinese, Mexican, Canadian, and American law enforcement agencies are all hard at work trying to save Americans who are used to drugs which will not kill you instantly if mislabeled.

If you want to get high, get a bottle of factory booze or cannabis from a dispensary.

Or find Dr Feelgood to prescribe you some FDA approved pills from a pharmacy.

Keith Richard’s is 81 and still smiling.

fantanyl is abused on every level, even if its prescribed by a doctor...

china makes a lot of it and sends it over here. Hell they make such a profit on it, they dont give a shit on the end user.

you have to remember the old chinese cure for herior and opium was beheading . until they started importing shiploads of it to to hong kong on a daily basis

Medical doctors overprescribing opioids is a continuing problem but not for fentanyl. Dr Feelgood gets busted for overprescribing fentanyl, because it’s 100 times more potent than morphine. Red flags would go up all over the pharmacy that gave out fentanyl the same way they do other opioids. To get medical fentanyl you’d better have end stage cancer or be in an emergency room.

Dr Feelgood prescribes less potent opioids.

The Chinese government doesn’t produce any illicit fentanyl.

Chinese law mandates severe penalties for drug offenses, including those related to fentanyl. The exact penalty depends on the specific charges and the amount of the drug involved. Penalties for fentanyl manufacturing, trafficking, and smuggling can include lengthy prison sentences, life imprisonment, or even the death penalty
. —

Opium addiction has been a problem for centuries.

But pure opium might take a lifetime to kill you. All fentenyl really is, is a synthetic opioid fifty times purer than heroin.

Canadian drug peddlers seem to insist on pure, medical grade Chinese fentanyl . Of course they don’t share a border with Mexico.

Mexico is poor, and is corrupt. The government has had a horrible problem with drug cartels for many years.

The cartels smuggle in Chinese precursors then have chemists train cooks, and product control is horrific. But if by chance the product is medical grade and pure, and used to boost other drugs, then it’s like the late sixties and early seventies problem where servicemen snorted pure heroin in Vietnam and came home and shot up low quality heroin until they stumbled on a pure batch and died.

The cartels don’t intentionally kill customers. It brings heat, and it’s bad business. They want addicted customers who’ll keep using and not have their relatives demanding they get shut down.

Fentanyl overdose deaths are declining

Fentanyl deaths show promising signs of decline, particularly among young people, but the overall picture is complex and requires careful consideration of various data points
.
Here's a breakdown of the information regarding fentanyl deaths:

Declining trends
  • Overall Decrease in Drug Overdose Deaths:The U.S. has seen a significant decline in overall drug overdose deaths, including those involving fentanyl. Provisional data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicates a 27% decrease in total overdose deaths from 2023 to 2024. This includes a 30.6% drop in fentanyl-related deaths in a single year.
  • Drop Among Younger Generations: Fatal overdoses, including those linked to fentanyl, have plummeted among people in the U.S. under 35. Specifically, deaths among those under 35 dropped by roughly 40% in the last year, and ages 20 to 29 saw a 47% reduction in risk. Teenagers experienced a stunning decline, with 40% fewer fatal overdoses compared to the previous year.
  • Widespread Improvement: All 50 states and the District of Columbia have seen at least some recovery in overdose deaths, suggesting a turning point in the fentanyl crisis.
  • Potential Factors Contributing to the Decline:
    • Harm Reduction Strategies: Increased availability and use of naloxone (Narcan), a medication that reverses opioid overdoses, along with education and training programs are contributing to the decline.
    • Decreased Fentanyl Potency: Research suggests that the fentanyl being sold on the street may be less potent than it once was.
    • Adaptation by Individuals: People struggling with addiction may be adapting to fentanyl's potency, using smaller quantities, according to NPR.

Ongoing challenges
  • Shift to Other Substances: While fentanyl deaths have decreased, deaths involving stimulants like methamphetamine and cocaine have shown an upward trend. In 2024, deaths involving stimulants increased from 29,456 to 37,096, and cocaine deaths rose by about 8,000 to 30,833.
  • Uneven Progress: Despite overall improvements, disparities persist. Overdose deaths were still accelerating in late 2023 among American Indian or Alaska Native, Black, Hispanic, and multiracial populations, as well as among adults aged 55 years or older. Some age groups, specifically a cluster born between 2005 and 2011, have seen a slight uptick in overdose deaths over the past two years, according to NPR.

——

Still yet, Nancy Reagan (a typical Campbellite mother) had the solution.

Seriously. Just Say No.

A conservative Christian raising, coupled with a good public education and then lifelong self education, is the best antidote to drug abuse.

But the government cannot pick your parents, you know?

I usually hope no one whose life and loved ones have not been touched by alcoholism or addiction ever has to find out what it’s like, but that post has me questioning that practice…

I'll just stick with opiates, if necessary. I had a post-surgical drip of fentanyl and the stuff was rubbish, kept pressing the button but it just made me unwell; switched to a low dose opiate and problem sorted while it was an issue.

When my mother saw little children she’d say every life is precious and every last one of us were born as a perfect child of God.

See that little one over there? They are a blank, white sheet of paper.

And yet at the same time, I realized my grandmother was a famous writer (locally) and my mother was a beautiful schoolteacher who had been the headline pretty girl singer for the 1946 Camdebton J-H Rodeo and my Daddy was a dead ringer for a young Leslie Howard who played Ashley Wilkes. It was easy for Mama to not be a barfly nursing her drink in a bar, you know?

Yes, my father died when I was 13, and my first wife had severe emotional problems, my firstborn son died at 36, and my wife today is sick. I never will be the Governor, either.:)

But overall the storms of life haven’t blown very hard on me in 67 years.

Thirty years ago I was addicted to the Rush Limbaugh show. I listened almost every day.

Until slowly I realized that every value, every one of my morals, and all my core beliefs were being mocked and scorned by him every single day. So I turned him off. I never relapsed.

The other night on the way to see the Corpse Flower my wife had to vomit in a little alley in Fulton, after she ate.

I noticed a half dozen little empty bottles of Fireball there and an empty bottle of light beer.

But no soul has ever died in an instant from that first little dollar bottle of Fireball, you know?

I had that realization too. Happened about 1990 or so.

Google is obsessed with selling you stuff, or linking you up to places where you can buy the stuff it thinks you are looking for. It's like the machine assumes that your only motivation for interacting with the network is that you want to buy stuff. That link to buy fentanyl was probably a link that was generated from key words in the article, and didn't actually lead you to fentanyl vendors.

We had fentanyl on our squad when I was a firefighter/EMT. We even used it after I pried an obese screaming woman off the can who experienced a lot pain as blood flow and feeling in her legs was restoring. She shut up after the dose and was all smiles.

When I retired my wife finally persuaded me to have a colonoscopy.

My ass didn’t hurt so I’d never had one.

It took three. The first one I wasn’t cleaned out, and they biopsied one big polyp and it wasn’t cancer (yet) and scheduled me for another and prescribed me Colyte.

  • GoLYTELY
  • NuLYTELY
  • TriLyte
  • Suflave

Active ingredients
The primary active ingredients in CoLyte, and its generic equivalents, are polyethylene glycol 3350, sodium chloride, potassium chloride, sodium bicarbonate, and sodium sulfate. These ingredients work together to create an osmotic laxative effect, helping to cleanse the bowel.

Important note
This information is for general knowledge and should not be considered medical advice. Always consult with a healthcare professional or pharmacist for specific information about your medication and treatment plan.

——

You drink two gallons of it over two days, and I can testify you will be cleaned out.:)

The second try they took out 17 small polyps and sent me to a bigger hospital for two more big ones. More Colyte. I’m a regular fan and accomplished user of Colyte by now.:)

On the third try, I’m polyp free and no cancer, yet. They have me down for another colonoscopy for the week after Christmas.

Why is Colyte prescription only?

What damned business does anybody have drinking it unless they are having a colonoscopy?

Same with fentanyl.

If you need it, you can get it.

And it will be pure and safe.

The wrong dose of polyethylene glycol will put you in the graveyard, for certain.
