Growing up we had a Chinese take-away down the road called Wan King. The council got annoyed and made them change it so they did Wang Kin … they gave up after that
Here in the states, not everyone would get it. For those of us who watch British shows on BritBox and Acorn know what wanking and wankers is. ;)

Years ago Saturday Night Live did a bit on a furntiure store named SOFA KING. If some would open a real store named SOFA KING...it would be a hit. I'd buy my next sofa there.

Not a shop name, but until they folded under a mountain of debt some years ago, Melbourne's largest construction company. Their name "Grocon" was plastered huge and highly visible on cranes and hoardings. French friends and visitors used to chortle with laughter - VERY rude French slang for "huge c...t". ?

Here in Austin, we have a great pho restaurant. For the unaware, the word pho is correctly pronounced with a short U sound.

On Fort Stewart, back in the 80's, as you left post, there was a small brown sign on the right by a nondescript building.

The top of the sign said Division Food Services and the bottom half said Post Mortuary Offices.

In a low rent strip mall near my house, there used to be a place called Acme Screw and Bolt and a few doors down was a Planned Parenthood. I often mentioned that if one didn't screw and bolt, one might not require planned parenthood service...

I think I passed the place en route from the Sudbury area where I lived to Framlingham or thereabouts.

So glad someone else remembers it, thought I was going mad when I couldn't find it on Google.

Regards,

Jay.
well that would make sense as to get from Sudbury to Fram you would go through both Hadleigh and Ipswich ,although both have bypasses these days.

I lived just outside both Sudbury (Great Cornard) and Ipswich (Hintlesham) and worked around that area for BT (the former state owned British telephone company to our US readers)

Well well well, I lived at Great Cornard too (Mallard Way & worked at Wishbone Turkeys in (Sudbury))....what a small world!

I also lived at Lavenham, Long Melford, Sudbury, Aldeburgh and Leiston! My ex originated from Capel St. Mary.

Regards,

Jay.

The night of the big storm I had already left Great Cornard and was at living at Leiston (working at Sizewell B).

I think I lived at number 64 Mallard Way? I was facing some fields that I believe were later built on.

Jay.

Many moons ago, when I lived in Suffolk (UK) I recall driving through a village where I saw a sign that said "De'Ath: Funeral Directors"!

Tried to find them on the web just now but sadly no luck :(

Regards,

Jay.
When I lived in Greece, reasonably close to my house there was a hairdressers with a sign "Life is too short for bad hair". Right next to them there was a funeral director which I found very ironic. To add to it, both establishments are owned by the same person. I always used to chuckle thinking they need to put a sign saying "Either way we'll get you" or something like that!

They should have put a sign up that said "Come get you hair cut so we know how to do your last one!"

I drove past a place in the dirty part of the big city. The sign said Crippled Stripper.

I was oddly intrigued. I'm unsure if it was a standard gentleman's club, a rehab facility or a special care center... but the parking lot was full.
