Northwoods is pretty darn close. Not sure there is anything else that would serve as a replacement.
Countryside is definitely sweeter than Northwoods, with a little less latakia. Military Force is still my favorite in the Boswell English line, it has a sweet pine note that just hits perfectly when I'm out on the patio.I think Northwoods is very similar, but I find Countryside even more so.
Where does Military force sit in comparison to Northwoods and Countryside? And are there other aromatic English blends from Boswell's that you've tried that you can also throw into the comparison?Countryside is definitely sweeter than Northwoods, with a little less latakia. Sweetness-wise, of the ones I've tried, it goes Countryside (sweetest), Northwoods (mid-sweet), Military Force (least sweet, but still a touch). Latakia-wise reverses that order, with MilFor at the top.Where does Military force sit in comparison to Northwoods and Countryside? Highly recommend their sampler. It gave me a good understanding of their blends before I made some larger purchases to smoke and cellar.Sweetness-wise, of the ones I've tried, it goes Countryside (sweetest), Northwoods (mid-sweet), Military Force (least sweet, but still a touch). In the English category they also have Railroad Station, English Biscuit, Magnum, Imperial, Titus, Mild English, and English Blend, none of which I have tried.
They do offer a sampler of 1oz bags of all 8 of their English blends: Boswell English Sampler - https://boswellpipes.com/product/boswell-english-sampler/
Thanks! So the first list are aromatic englishes and the latter straight englishes?Sweetness-wise, of the ones I've tried, it goes Countryside (sweetest), Northwoods (mid-sweet), Military Force (least sweet, but still a touch). Latakia-wise reverses that order, with MilFor at the top.

I'm pretty certain that English Biscuit is a crossover (light aro English), but as I say, I've not tried any off that second grouping, so I can't say for certain. Perhaps @blametony has some insight, as he's tried them all? Thanks! So the first list are aromatic englishes and the latter straight englishes?
That’s one of the few Boswell’s I haven’t tried. I need to pick some up.Countryside is definitely sweeter than Northwoods, with a little less latakia. Military Force is still my favorite in the Boswell English line, it has a sweet pine note that just hits perfectly when I'm out on the patio.
I'm happy to send you a sample of MilForce, I have 6+ ounces in my active cellar and in mylar. DM if interested. That’s one of the few Boswell’s I haven’t tried. I need to pick some up.

Gone due to the Sutliffocalypse, so not worth falling in love with.Eastfarthing?
ThisIt's a very hard to replace blend for me. I found Northwoods not to be close. I found everything not to be close. For what it's worth, frog on a log is a fussy blend (for me). It's the most enjoyable blend sometimes, like it the very reason I enjoy pipes. So I have a cellar with a fair amount, and I'm not bragging....I spent money when it was gone to stock up and anyone can do that.
Yet, other times it's just flat out not swell at all. Probably the pipe smoker, not the blend. This one needs to be enjoyed (for me) when I'm not remotely concerned about business, or anything else. A rare occasion.
Get it if you can. Don't sweat it if you can't find it. There are great blends out there that are less demanding.
I’m a wine drinker and collector also and I find the same problem there. With Wine it’s even trickier because different vintages can taste completely different. So if you find a specific Wine in a specific vintage, it’s almost never exactly the same even with other vintages from the same winery. It's a very hard to replace blend for me. Do you not find HGL much sweeter than FM?Forget what everyone is saying. The closest I’ve found is Lane HGL. Nothing will be the same, but HGL gave me the most similar taste experience as Frog Morton and other McClelland bulk blends that are similar to Frog Morton. If McClelland was selling HGL no one would know the difference.
Of course, there is the chance some one will come in here and say HGL isn’t close, just like I’ve told you to forget what everyone else has said.
