Well David sent me a supplemental package from the FPP, but this one is to help a friend get into pipe smoking. I share my pipes with him when we hang out and I think he will really enjoy having his own stuff. In the package were four tins of Sutliff Private Stock blends, a tin of Da Vinci, a bunch of baggies of other tobaccos, and a couple pipes. Very generous!
In addition to that stuff, I have included a tamper and put together a bunch of other baggies and pouches of tobaccos I had gotten in my shipment from the FPP and other varieties I had accumulated. We will both be set on tobacco for quite awhile now!
I'm going to give everything to him tomorrow and will have him pose for a picture. Thanks again to all the supporters and to shaintiques for heading this project up!

This is a 3 part post. Part one is to tell of a kindness of a fellow forum member. Part two is to request to be a recipientof this awesome free pipe project. Part three is to share a cool idea for the consideration of the grouo members.
Part 1
I am a newbie to the pipe as is evident from my recent posts. I own an MM legend, which I adore, an MM Ozark maple, which I like, and a mini cob that after a brief honeymoon I've ended up divorcing. I avtually own a wooden pipe ive not yet smoked which I am reserving for a speciak occasion. It is the only item I posses thwt belonged to my father, and I plan to smoke only twice a year on his birthday and anniversary of his passing. Thus I do not consider it a pipe for my rotation, but it is partially the reason why I decided to explore pioe smoking, to learn how to use it without destroying this precious family treasure. Thus I only have two pipes to savour.
Out of the blue I received a private message from woopigsuie, another forum member, who kindly offered to send me a pipe. I was touched by his kind offer, and his only request is that someday I pay it forward. On numerous occasions I had provided a kindness with the request that the person pay it forward, and it was a delight to finally be on the other end of such a special request. Woopigsuie has confirmed my suspicion that this forum is populated by a bunch of true gentlemen, and I am extremely greatful to him for his kindness. Once I receive his mail I intend to follow up with a post about him and his pipe here in this thread even though his offer isn't officially a part of this free pipe project.
Part 2
Woopigsuie suggested that I oost a request in this thread to request being a recipientof this fine project. I have seen this thread before but didn't raise a hand earlier as I typically am too bashful to ask for a freebie, but after pondering his suggestion I have decided to overcome the inhibition and ask.,, May I please be a part of this marvelous project? Pretty please please? I promise to treasure the gifts and will, on my honor, post the requested pictures and post a few nice words about it. Please let me know how to proceed if I am selected to be a recipientof this generous offer.
Part 3
While corresponding with woopigsuie I was inspired with a neat idea, which I would like to share here for people's consideration. Anyone familiar with that travelling garden gnome, or similar orojects, that the item gets mailed to various exotic destinations? Imagine selecting a briar of intriguingcharacter that gets mailed from member ro member. The deal would be to host the pipe for a week, snap pictures of the user wih the pipe at local landmarks, then at the end of the week the person would mail the pipe, at his own expense, to the next member in line. For example I live in Ottawa Canada, and could take it to the Parliament buildings. Someone in NY might take it to the Statue of Liberty or to the 9/11 ground zero where the 3 buildings came down, or someone in France with the Eifle tower. In less exotic locations a farm field, forest or other areas of interest. Imagine the history of:such a touring pipe, being a part of that history, and what a fascinating threat that could evolve into being.
I look gorward to reading replies to all if the above, and enjoying the:remote comradery of all you fellow gentlemen!l

mrcloud, that sounds like a fun idea. I would like to suggest the item be a tamper instead of a pipe. This way we can take pictures of us using the tamper. Perhaps you could start a new thread?

I would be happy to initiate a new thread to the topic if a few people declare an interest. I am somewhat partial to the idea of it being a pipe since this is after all a pipe forum. Perhaps the nice person who is doing this free pipe project could select a rather unique briar, one with some character that would be a joy to pass along from member to member in the "Tour de Pipe". Perhaps if I am selected to be a recipient of the free pipe project the special touring pipe could simply be included in my shipment. Unless someone else has an unusual pipe they'd like to donate instead.
On another note, if I am selected to be a participant of the FPP may I request to not have any tobacco sent. Despite the abundance of drool looking at the tobacco sent to others I am concerned about Canadian Customs. Thanks again in advance for being considered part if the FPP

I will add you, mrcloud, to the list and will eventually get you some pipes. As for the traveling pipe idea, though interesting it would be best to start another thread. I don't have anything spectacular to send for that project however. I think the tamper is more practical and each person could actually use it as passing a pipe that we all smoke doesn't sound appealing. I have enough pipes to clean. But again we can discuss it in another thread, I would like to keep this strictly FPP.

I'm from Sydney Australia, but I have two of my first pipes that are now retired (due to my 3 Petersons). I'm happy to send them to you guys, but sending tobacco is not really practical as it costs something like $50 US per 50g tin.

Here is a picture of my friend smoking one of his new pipes that shaintiques sent me to pass on to him. He was very appreciative and kind of overwhelmed! I hope I didn't scare him with all the tobacco I gave him!

Wow macabra upside down pipe smoking that is a new trick. But if you pack the bowl well it should stay in there. Just watch out for falling ash. Seriously though glad he liked them.

I got an awesome package the night before last, I did try and take a pic this morning however it did no justice. I will take a nice pic or 2 this evening or tomorrow morning to put up. Dave thank you for your contribution and Briarblues thank you too! I was stricken with pride when I opened the box knowing that I belong to a group of people most will never know. Thank you everybody involved and I will get some pics up this weekend.

Here is one with an Iwan Ries, this pipe would not go out, kept a smoke going even for extended times of not puffing, a great little smoker for sure.

This is really great guys! I've been smoking for 2-3 weeks. I have about 8 blends and 2 pipes. 2 more coming in the mail. A Dr. grabow and a M&M cob. I think it says a lot about the character of the people who give time, effort, pipes, and tobacco to this project. This is a testament to the human spirit. Kudos to you shaintiques and to everyone who donated. Simple amazing.

Well I gave away 3 pipes from the project this week. One to a homeless guy I know who smokes a pipe but only has a cobbled together pipe made from a bowl, a piece of wood, and a broken stem held together with electrical tape. So he got a great little thick walled rusticated basket with a purple lucite band. Then tonight at pipe club we had a guy come into the shop asking about the pipe. Wants to quit cigs. Gave him a nice little poker with orange lucite stem, showed him how to smoke and he fired up a bowl of Nording Labrador for his First bowl. He loved it and I'm pretty sure he is. Ow hooked. One of our other club members has a friend he is converting so I gave him an Iwan Ries full bent with a gold colored lucite stem. So thanks guys for the contributions. We are sharing the hobby and getting some new blood from what has been sent.

I wouldn't mind tossing my hat in the ring for this. Lost my Nording in one of my moves with the Navy, recently wanted to pick the pipe up again and bought a basket pipe locally and 2 house blends to get me back in it.

Got some restoring done and have some pipes in process. Hope to get some out to the next guys on the list in the next week or so. Also got a box in last week of some gorgeous pipes from Briar Blues for the project. Here is a pic of two of them.

There were a few other pipes in the box. One was a beautiful little Amorelli Dublin with the gold bar inlay and straight grains. I have a friend named Ben who is a newer smoker with only a couple pipes that I gave him out of my personal collection, so I gave him the Amorelli courtesy of the FPP. But generosity begets generosity and he ended up gifting it to his brother who is also interested in pipe smoking. So I let him look through the donations and he picked out this very interesting bulldog flying saucer. It is a Weber and as you can see has a nice wide bowl. It is a very interesting looking pipe. It was badly oxidized and had a fair amount of cake, but as you can see from the pic it has been reborn. I don't remember who donated it though. Here is a pic of Ben smoking it for the first time at pipe club and a pic of the restored pipe. He said it smokes great and that it is now his favorite pipe.
