Automaker Ford (F) plans an EV announcement Monday, which the company heralds as its "Model T moment," even as the U.S. electric vehicle market wrestles with the new reality under President Donald Trump without federal incentives. Ford stock angled higher Monday.

Ford will announce its new EV platforms at an event in Kentucky on Monday. The announcement is expected to begin around 10:20 a.m. ET. CEO Jim Farley previously claimed this will be a critical for the automaker, as Farley promises the company will focus on affordable, profitable mass-market EVs.

——

What this country really needs is a really good fifty thousand dollar electric car.

—-

The average transaction price for a new car in the US is currently around $48,700. While prices have fluctuated, they have generally remained elevated compared to pre-pandemic levels.

—-

The cars we pay $50,000 for now are three times more expensive to fuel per mile than an electric equivalent.

And are much less powerful.

—-

Ford’s new Model T has to last 15 years, climb Pike’s Peak and operate in Nome Alaska as well as it does in Key West.

Billy Joe at the parts store must have spare parts.

Teenage kids have to be able to work on them.

And the banks have to make loans on them and they must be insurable.

And my wife demands we stop for fuel about every two or three hours.

Buck-ee’s needs to do an IPO and get on the New York Stock Exchange.:)

I read that the Tesla EV when converted to equivalent gasoline mpg only equates to 10 miles per gallon of gasoline ... if so, I'd rather have the 1973 Caddy Eldorado convertable or one of those 1978 Fleetwood Broughams.
Not sure what you meant by this but we own two Teslas and they're a quarter of the cost of gas per mile in my area if you averaged a combustion engine car getting 30mpg everywhere.

Hey—-can I sell you a gas car now?.:)

Don’t you miss oil changes and maintenance costs of keeping up an internal combustion engine and drivetrain?

And don’t you miss paying at the pump for gas instead of your monthly electric bill a bit higher?

And think of all the gas stations you hardly ever use. Don’t you miss pumping gasoline outside?.:)

This is why Ford is shooting for a $30,000 Ford Ranger EV.

So they can sell a million Ford Explorer EVs at $50,000 each a year.

Give me an EV Mini Truck that can tow or carry a full load have a 500 mile range is off road capable ,with a cheap replacement battery option and for under 20 k and I’d consider one.
This reminds me of the the "we can do it fast, cheap, and good...pick two" signs.

There’s probably maybe a gas truck for $40,000 that meets your requirements.

Ford is going to offer you a $30,000 mid size Ranger type truck with a 300 mile range and a battery that will last longer than you’ll own it.

It won’t tow shit.

It will haul lots of groceries and beer.

And, you may buy one fresh but used a few years old for $15,000.

Once you get a taste of not buying gasoline ever, only having to fuel one up at a station a few times each year when you are on a long trip, and whatever you pay now for gasoline you’ll pay three or four or five times less once a month on your electric bill—-

Plus they all run like 396 Chevelles—-just stupid torque and horsepower.

You’re hooked.

It’s over for you for any gasoline buggies ever again, you are done.

I think you just read it. Don't know the value of that but... it's hard to not be a bit pedantic at times.

I don’t own a Ford Explorer but the cops just love the things.

Yes, my 2015 Suburban is a better buggy but not twice as much new better.

Mine is bigger, but not really that much bigger.

Ford makes, Chevy makes, Chrysler makes, the imports make, your choice of really good fifty thousand dollar gasoline vehicles.

And we know a fifty thousand car car is affordable because that’s the average price of the damned depreciating, gas drinking, headed for the junkyard things.:)

What this country really needs is a cop car cool electric $50,000 Ford Explorer.:)

See,
I wouldn’t buy that. A 300 mile range to sit and wait on a charge is useless and no different than a current model Tesla.
How much will the battery cost when it inevitably craps out?
I bet 15-20k for the replacement!
It sounds like a street legal golf cart with a 300 mile battery range and a nice interior.
My Cops hated the Explorer with a passion. I had a fleet of 70 Interceptors before I retired
and the majority were problematic as were our newer model F150’s.
Myself personally based on those experiences and being a prior Ford guy myself I would never put my own money into another Ford product again.

Not to get too far into the weeds on this.... But one thing I've heard many times is that electric cars will become common when they're economically superior to gas driven cars. That battle won't come down to ideology but fiscal practicality.
Who knows though people are weird... highly predictable until they're not.

Any money you save on not buying gasoline will be put into replacement of the battery.

Not all of us like dropping 15-30k every 5-10 years on a new ride. Some of us would rather buy pipes and tobacco with that money.

I’m older than 600 mile range gasoline vehicles.

Our 2015 Suburban has a standard 31 (it’s actually maybe 33) gallon tank and even my lead foot wife gets over 20 miles to the gallon driving it hard on the interstate.

I can feather the throttle and hit 25 mpg.

My father’s 1965 Ford Galaxy 500 352 needed a drink less in less than 200 miles.:)

Some people from the Ozarks actually commute to Joplin or Kansas City. They don’t travel 300 miles a day.

It takes less money to make a 300 mile battery than a 500 mile battery and it’s hardly ever needed.

After almost all new cars are electric then they’ll upgrade the customer to the 500 mile battery the same was they upgraded my father from a six cylinder to a 352.

3 hours at 80 miles an hour is about all the range the passengers can stand.:)
