Well, I appreciate all the comments. I could maybe stand one day of 94F. I know this post is getting long in the tooth but here we go again. Snow all day, tonight and tomorrow. Warmest day in the seven day forecast is Thursday, Oct. 4th for a high of +8C. Me thinks we are going to have an early and long winter.

Ask me next June: I'll know for sure by then.

If that happens I think my wife will shoot me for running my mouth about 'how much I love winter'! 8O

I'm looking forward to the cold weather so I can burn my new wood stove and smoke my pipe in front of it :puffy:

I don't ski or skate any longer so, no need for snow and ice. Yet, here I live in the northwestern most part of Saint Brendan's Land (Only those with a bit of Irish blood will get the reference.).
Still awaiting our first snow but, overnight temperatures are dropping into the 30's.

True, he had a vision but, many think he'd heard stories from even earlier travelers and knew exactly what he was looking and where. The flowery language of his writings, actually the writings of later people, was simply the style and effort to impute religion into his voyage. The jury is still out and probably forever will be as to facts.

Be careful about lighting a fire. It may be the back of a monster you are living on and you wouldn't want to wake him nor keep him from trying to eat his tail.

Brendan was one of those figures I thought about walking the Aran Islands 18 years ago in December. Hard to imagine setting out on the ocean in a currach not knowing when or if you would reach land or even what your destination is. All the adventure and hardship without a tobacco pipe to ease the hard nights.
