"Plus, it's always a good idea to preemptively shoot your neighbor, less he be coveting your survival necessities."
Cosmic, you wouldn't happen to be from down around Tug Fork River way, would you? 8O

Love the snow, but here in South Carolina all we get is freezing rain and ice in the winter. Right now I'm sitting here waiting for Hurricane Florence to hit. Florence will a Tropical Storm when the eye comes over my area. May be out of touch for a few days or weeks when the power goes out, which is certain here.

Being a Southerner, I just don't understand how people can live up in those uninhabitable regions.

Cosmic, I must say that the older I get, the more I agree with this sentiment. I live in Minnesota but I'm a transplant from Southeast Kansas. I've been here for 27 years and I've had enough. I no longer mince words with my wife about getting the hell out of here. The winters are cold and long.
Glad I could get that off my chest.

shikano53, funny, you're talking about a warm fall, but that sure as hell looks like winter to me

+ 1 for Cosmic and Timt, now I'm suspecting that Canada and those regions of Alberta province can be even colder than here on the southern coastal region of Finland, but no doubt further north regions here are comparable or even worse I guess,

Less sweating, no bugs, vats of chili being made, latakia, no grass cutting every few days, more clothing to cover my figure of a bowling pin, dog poop is easier to find/pick up, fireplace is rocking, I like the old time Xmas music and radio shows and the new house I move into next week has a 4 season smoking room!
Bill is officially invited! (Bring snow shovel)

I am writing this while floating in the pool with a big glass full of iced pineapple juice
That's nice , my blueberry wine is just ready for the winter months , goes excellent with moose burgers

Here
Texas mild and pleasant winters are our just rewards for running like a lizard from shady spot to shady spot for 4 months straight.
Spring and fall down here are awesome and, though we pay in the summer, it requires no plow and makes cold beer that much better.
And, I can ride my bike about 350 days per year. Invaluable and much cheaper than therapy.
