Well I finally broke down and bought a Peterson. I've eyeballed numerous ones over time, even bid on some on the bay. But last week on a whim I stopped in to the local B&M and what do I find? A couple dozen tins, restocked bulk offerings, and a greatly increased number of pipes. Really a great selection and quite an expansion of pipe stuff. In months/years past there was no tins and sometimes a handful of pipes. After talking with the guy at the counter I grabbed a couple tins and this Dracula (well and an EP Carillo Prequel Pledge cigar). Great stem swirl and much lighter than I would have imagined. It felt great supporting a local business (smoke shop) making an effort to cater to pipe smokers. I was impressed and will be back.

Also, what bowl chamber coating does Peterson use? This thing builds cake at a record pace :sher:

Awesome! I love the 150 shape. I totally agree about the bowl coating Peterson has been using for the last year or so. It really does seem to build cake quickly!

Love to see a B&M expand a pipe/ tobacco selection. Mine is like that.. It only took them adding a few more pipes and bringing in a few new tins (along with some C&D and Gawith Hogarth bulk) to become a much more interesting pipe destination despite being mostly cigars.

It's been 3 bowls and there is substantial cake building. I have pipes I've smoked 20 or many more times without this result. I am a bit surprised, but not disappointed.

Most recently Peterson uses gum arabic and powdered activated charcoal for a bowl coating. I've never had a problem with it, but some people complain about it.

All told I've got about 60 Petersons now...
I bought a new 120 army a year ago directly from Peterson.ie. It gave me a very annoying bitter/plastic taste in every smoke until I sanded the chamber, yes I sanded the chamber of a brand new pipe down to wood with less than 10 smokes in it because I felt that when wiping it after a smoke there was gunk unlike what I know of coming out. Never looked back, tasted great ever since, THEN I found out that there was a coating :)

That’s the older coating. Must have been a pipe sitting around for a while

Ha. I've been waffling about a Dracula for about a month. You just nudged me along. Ordered a 80s sandblasted. I also ordered another one I've been eyeing, a Savinelli Oceano rusticated 510.
With the two I just got a couple of weeks ago. my pipe budget is in the red!

Man, I really like the way that Savinelli bulldog looks in that Oceano line. Kind of subtle, almost like a diamond shanked apple or brandy. Awesome 80s too
