personally I am not attracted to most newer carvers and their shaping ideas....

That’s where I sit. I find artisan pipes interesting, but am most attracted to traditional/standard shapes. There are, of course, some artisans who do beautiful standards, but as long as I can get nice, good-smoking pipes in the estate market for $50…

I’m still kicking myself that I didn’t buy one of the Nanna Ivarrson designed Stanwell pipes that I had my eye on when they came out years ago. At the time it was a little above my budget unfortunately.

Personally I am not attracted most new carvers either. If I were I would have to question my sexuality and I am comfortable with my sexuality.

Surprised Anne Julie hasn't been mentioned yet. Some great ones, some weird ones, but a big name. Personally, my first will likely be a Scottie. Lovin those pencil shanks, just not the amount of income they require to attain, haha. Soon, hopefully.

One reason I don't care for Nana Ivarsson is that quite a number of her pipes are plainly phallic and I find that utterly disgusting. I'd feel mighty uncomfortable sucking on something shaped like that, even if the price tag were -$5000 (minus as in you'd have to be paying me that much to take the pipe home).

Nanna is an exceptional carver with a sharp eye for grain. She consistently brings out the best in a block and despite the multi-thousand dollar price tag attached to her work- she manages to remain quite humble. Were I rich, I would already own a piece or two.

She's a good carver. I don't deny or dismiss her talent, just the outcome. Some of it, anyway. She's got other pieces that are quite prepossessing.

I don't know, Olkofri. They all look like pretty standard Danish shapes to me. ?‍ Her father Lars and Sixten before him produced some very similar pipes in their day.

Might be my imagination too. I'm doing videoconferencing with my mum. I'll ask her. But I must wait till my father goes upstairs lest he freaks out if he walks into the office and sees a page full of pipes on my mum's computer's screen.

Chalk it up to those bulb shaped stems. Of all her designs, I found these the least attractive.
