Time to invest in cannabis stocks.
@sablebrush I already am. Now is a great time to buy into Canadian companies as there's been a huge pullback. I am not a stock advisor, do not take my advice

No parade pissing here, just a sign of the times. Once smokers were Americana, now we're trash. As for the marijuana, never had any dealings with it, never will.

I spent a great deal of time in my youth with marijuana...it was not a bad time and I will not bad mouth it.
Tobacco, specifically pipe tobacco, brings ME a different kind of solace.

Seeing the writing on the wall, everyone should isolate their 3 favorite blends and stock up now.
Can you imagine what a bag of Penzance will sell for in the year 2040?

All I know is that reading this thread makes me feel better about all the Luxury Navy Flake I bought from Smoking Pipes for $26 a pound. DO NOT INFORM SHE WHO MUST NOT BE NAMED!

In addition to stuff that might go away, I'm also not sad that I've cellared a lot of CH and PA. Take that, Shutterbugg!

saintpeter: I'm not in the same boat as you and apparently many others. Preserving tobacco use is simply not a battle I consider worth fighting. There's a war going on and I see the fight over tobacco use as but a skirmish, a not insignificant one that's true, in that war on individual choice/responsibilities. I will be with you in spirit, even standing on a hill cheering you on. I am not sanguine about the results though.
I'll find another wee vice to replace tobacco if necessary or, perhaps simply enjoy spending my savings on other things of interest. The grandson comes to mind. Might purchase an ownership share in a politician. I could develop an addiction to nicotine gum or patches as they would be purchased by my insurance company? Who knows!
2020 is possible. 2030? Doubtful but, a slim chance. 2040? I doubt I'll hand around that long. Some members will be very disappointed if do. Particularly if I was sentient enough to still be operating a computer.

I'll give that a big amen.
And I'm sorry, but I can see some grim humor in this all.
Attorney: "Your Honor. It's true my client had one tub of Carter Hall for his personal use, but it's not like he was hoarding a hundred tins of factory grade flake and cake with a street value of $5,000.00 and obviously for distribution."

So much for civil discourse and onto politics.

Watch out for the train!
Oh please.
Yes my comment of:
Once the Constitution was Americana, now it's in the trash.
Is so uncivil and so political.
I humbly apologize and I’ll try not to mention it a third time.

"Unlike Prohibition, tobacco is universally disliked."
And there was me thinking that prohibition was universally disliked
The simple answer to all of these FDA rulings is to see that you stock up on supplies to see you through to your natural end. I'm in the UK and know for a fact that HM Government wants sales of all tobacco products to cease sometime during my latter years. There is nothing I can do about that but I can stock up my supply to see me out.
Regards,
Jay.

[Low-tar, low-nicotine cigarettes have been around for a long time. Smokers are now suing tobacco companies for marketing these cigarettes as relatively safe. The suit says that to get the same nicotine fix from low-nicotine cigarettes, smokers "unconsciously engage in compensatory behaviors " such as smoking more sticks, inhaling more deeply, or delaying exhalation. So nicotine reduction doesn't end up reducing the damage. And remember, these cigarettes are low-nicotine and low-tar. A low-nicotine, regular-tar cigarette would, on this theory, cause even greater damage, since you'd have to inhale more carcinogens to get the same fix.]
You hit the point. Nicotine is not dangerous, the problem is from all other carcinogens and particles inhaled with smoke. And a low nicotine tobacco is going to increase not decrease the risks as to compensate smokers will smoke more. It will be probably better for the big companies as they will sell more cigarettes in this way.
It is all nonsense, unfortunately we live in a society practically controlled by liberals chic who think they know what is good for all other people and they will pursue their goals. This is not to say tobacco is not harmful but it should be a personal choice. If the tobacco will be legally banned at some point in the future it won't disappear but simply a black marked will flourish out of it as it is now for marijuana. It is interesting the most fervid opponents to the tobacco are the same liberal chic who want to liberalize the marijuana market. I suspect this is because marijuana makes people mind controllable by the government while in the opposite nicotine sharpen your mind (Einstein smoked pipe and it looks it did not affect his intellect).

It's a sad situation to which I don't see any improvement in sight but only worsening and just not only about tobacco but as for the future of our free society as we conceive.

Which are probably less dangerous than those from diesel truck and car exhaust.
Fascinating world we live in!

It all depends on the individual's genetic makeup and the robustness of the immune system. Which is the problem with studies of people in general. We con only figure the law of averages when doing risk/reward. I choose to trust to my genes, others choose to live healthy. And then there are those I really enjoy observing. They undertake risky behavior and then try to balance things. They seem somewhat confused to me.
