I recommend the Danish stem. It's a slightly harder plastic than the original so it won't chew up as easy. Great for clenching. They are in stock at Missouri Meerschaum.
Yes, the Danish is so much better. Don't know why they aren't available at SmokingPipes. Super cheap and terrific upgrade. Unlike the standard stem, they hold a rubber bit perfectly.

The second link has some good information on repairing cracked cobs. It was Fishnbanjo who got me into repairing my Legend I posted above.

This natural apple Diplomat is probably my favorite cob and probably in the top 5 of the most heavily smoked pipes I own, but it's got a long way to go before it looks as good as Banjo's above. Unfortunately, I've wasted hundreds of smokes trying to color meers.... ;)
