For me it is a concept album, especially since when you remove and listen to one song, like Money, it just doesn't sound right by itself. Music fans have grown used to the way it sounds by now, but as a stand alone song back when Pink Floyd was in its peak of fame it's just weird,
The concept that binds the set of songs are the anxieties of everyday life, IMO.
I never really liked that album or at least the songs all that much, until listening to it start to finish. Yeah it's a concept album and it's a cohesive album where one song leads into the next.

Solti's benchmark recording of The Ring Cycle which numbered 19 LPs when released in 1968 as an entire set, after nearly 10 years from the inception of the project. Wagner's Ring Cycle is 4 operas, Das Rheingold, Die Walküre, Siegfried, and Götterdämmerung, that tell the story of the struggles of the Gods (and others) to gain control over a magic ring that grants dominion over the world. Wagner intended for it to be watched in series. You need to bring food and water if you want to sit through the whole thing. And if you're wondering, Wagner lived in the 19th century, Tolkien in the 20th.
