For tobacco, I would give the edge to 4noggins. I have bought a load of tobacco from both 4noggins and SP. I love both, but as a Canadian, no one handles cross-border shipments better than Rich. That said, SP has more blends and there are a few I enjoy that I just can't order from Rich because he doesn't carry them.
For pipes, SP gets the edge. I have bought quite a few pipes from them and have always been ecstatic with their selection and service. I wish 4noggins carried more of a selection of higher end pipes - if 4noggins became a Castello distributor, for example, I am sure I would be buying numerous pipes from Rich.

For tobacco, I've used a combination of pretty much all of those most frequently mentioned in this thread ... 'favorite' is not a label I could put on any of them ... most frequent, perhaps, but even then, it'd be a close call ...
For pipes, most of mine have some age on them, some I've had for more than 30 years ... I've kicked the tires on new pipes quite a few times in recent years, but have only bought one, a Trypis which I got from a Canadian vendor and quite enjoy.

I've ordered from a number of different sites and I've had no real problems with any of them. Usually I have an idea of what I want and then I simply price shop until I find the best deal.
That being said, I must say the smokingpipes website is outstanding. I'm a very detail oriented person, and when I'm ordering online I want to get the most information about the product since I can't really see it (well, I can see it obviously, but you know what I mean--not first hand), smell it, or touch it. Smokingpipes fulfills this need very well.
For pipes you get ALL of the specs plus VERY detailed photos of the pipes and some include videos.
Some of their tinned tobaccos and all of their bulk tobaccos include close-up photographs and all tobaccos include reviews. Tobaccoreviews is still the go-to for reviews, of course, but it is still a nice addition to their site.
When you click on a tobacco, SP cross references that tobacco with others. I tried Autumn Evening for the first time a few days ago and liked it a lot. SP tells me that those who order AE also tend to order Orlik's Golden Sliced (among others). I've heard about OGS here on the forum, but since I'm rather new to the briar I never would have put those two together. I definitely plan to purchase some in the future based on the info from SP and from the fine people here on this forum.
Finally, and not to reopen "The Thread That Shall Not Be Named," but Harris is right. Click on a tobacco, type "1000" on quantity, and click "Update Cart." Unless they have more than 1000 tins, SP will tell you how many they have on hand.
I can (and sometimes do) spend hours on the site reading about and looking at all of the various pipes and pipe tobacco they sell. It's a highly educational and informative site, and I most likely will be ordering from them once I return to the US simply because they do such a good job with their online presence. To me, it's the "gold standard" of what a website should be and do.

I like the big box shops like the next person.
My FAVORITE place to buy tobacco would be with PipeStud.com With Steve, the customer is more than an order number.

For Tobacco - I go with 4Noggins, Jr's Cigars, Cigars International and WV Smoke Shop. I can always get the blends I want.
For Pipes, eBay, Cigars International, twice I ordered from Pipes & Cigars.

For pipes I tend to favor SP for variety & vital stats on each pipe. For tobacco I tend to favor P&C for price & they have a lot of specials. That being said I've bought pipes from P&C and tobacco from SP. I consider the edge either one has over the other to be minor. SP has fast shipping but for me so does P&C. The P&C fufillment center is only an hour away. I wish they had a B&M! Haven't used any other online vendors for PAD/TAD activities. Happy puffin', :puffpipe:
