While I partially agree with you Boston I believe there are other forces at play here and I don’t believe they are adequately being addressed.

As Americans I believe many of us hate seeing our beloved companies ,with the tenure Sutliff/Mac Baren had, being sold off or dismantled.

So you speak for all of us? Cool!
Tell me about the great disdain shown when Kraft bought Heinz, when Mondelez bought Kraft/Heinz? When Unilever bought…everything. Mergers and Aquisitions have been going on in US business since before there was a US, seldom attracting any attention beyond the business page. The company that I worked for for 21 years, a newspaper with 1.5 million readers on Sunday, was bought and sold so many times that I lost count. Few subscribers raised an eyebrow, even though the paper was instrumental in forming opinions across the country.

Another example I remember fondly visiting the old Remington factory before it was…

Yes, there was a brief disturbance in the fabric of time when the Ilion plant was shuttered, but almost no notice was taken when it had been sold so many times previously to a succession of companies and investment groups, including to some of its direct competitors. By the time of the most recent asset sale, manufacturing quality had dropped to a point that everyone welcomed the sale of the firearms IP, including that of Marlin (a treasured American arms company DuPont/Remington had bought and slowly, but greatly, diminished) to Ruger.

Farewell Sutliff/Mac Baren and thanks for the memories

Maybe I'm too positive at times but I think P&C will get better. Some of the TP/COJ employees are staying on at P&C. The ones whom I have interacted with and heading over there were really great and helpful. I know the community will probably disagree with me that.
Unfortunately, they won't have much impact on the shitty selection, low stock, fake sales, godawful clunky website, data selling, stealth unwanted magazine subscriptions, terrible packing and shipping practices, and "Stewie."

Not to mention the worst part.. the crappy/non-existent customer service when the consequences of all those other things end up at their logical conclusion... I could buy myself a nice Boswell or Castello with all the money they've stolen from me over the years between non-refunded returns, damaged merchandise, etc.

I'm happy in a way though, like I've stated here before... the one silver lining to this cloud is that now since P&C will not have a single unique or differentiating product (no more Hearth & Home, etc.) I will no longer give them another single dollar as long as I live. Now that I cleaned out the last of their Magnum Opus I will be purchasing all my tobaccos (Lane or otherwise) from anyone other than the retail arm of STG, idc if I have to pay a few extra cents per ounce.

I humbly suggest others to follow suit... why directly support the Danish Empire if literally everything they sell could be found somewhere else.. and by their own doing! lol

I've never had a problem with P&C in over 200 orders. Customer service has been good to me. Even replaced a pipe for free and overnighted it. You all complain too much.

I wouldn't assume all that. DOGE might go in there and fire Stewie. Especially if we all ask real nicely... :ROFLMAO:

Let’s hope P&C hires an up to date web designer and spruces things up to SP.com standards, and that both these major sites keep showing color photos of what’s inside each tin of tobacco being offered for sale.

I've mostly had a good experience with them but once they never shipped a lighter, took forever to respond, and then told me they didn't have it in stock anymore despite my order. Had to pick a different one. Been ignored a few times on service requests, in fact. Can definitely see how some folks have had more bad experiences than good. Dealing with SP was definitely in a different tier.

Well, @sablebrush52 initiated me into the Cult of Barling, a branch of British pipianity(the one true faith), and an esoteric subset of the pipe community. I had to renounce my association with dunhills and sold all of my possessions for a Straight Grain. While still a novice, I hope to take final vows ina few years.

However I do also believe the hobby/habit/practice of pipes/pipe smoking/pipemaking often reaches beyond those levels and justifies use of the term "community" in at least a certain sense of the word.
Find more than a handful that will admit that they are smokers, tobacco users, or nicotine addicts. Lots of folks like bathroom tissue. That doesn't mean there's a wiping community. Too much focus is given to belonging to something and finding validation from others.

They may be a BIT slower with shipping than SmokingPipes, but I've had great interactions with them. I purchased some MacB when the closures were announced, while they were doing a two pipe ashtray giveaway (had to spend a certain amount of $). One of the blends was backordered, so they refunded it which meant no ashtray for me. I emailed them and said I was more interested in the ashtray than the tobacco, so they sent me one for free! Another time, I was really loving the Anniversary Kake by Russ and they had just run out, so I sent them a nice email asking them to continue making it (along with an order I was making)--they promptly emailed me back saying they would keep it around and threw in a couple ounces with my order (apparently they just finished a new batch and hadn't listed it yet). Good people there.
