Beats me who buys it, but it isn’t just a few RYO’ers.who is buying it? I have heard of this stuff being used by people who make their own cigarettes with those injector tube things.

Bruh, that gym feet smell is delicious.I love the smell of barbecue, in a dump of the 80s. With roasted tires, burnt chocolate, dried vomit and mule manure. View attachment 247748
there are quite a few more of them then you might think. But I know it's not blenders lying about using latakia.Beats me who buys it, but it isn’t just a few RYO’ers.
I don't know if the implication went through. Blenders might use somethings like this as it would basically be casing or topping but I am pretty sure there is no way they'd try to fake having leaf they don't have with it.there are quite a few more of them then you might think. But I know it's not blenders lying about using latakia.
shit, I knew that going in.It's like hearing that your favorite song was performed by devil worshipping commies...
As I have hinted at Turkish is being used and people are definitely starting to notice I wonder if this is what caused the rumor.Saw this on SP.com’s blog about a new Missouri Meerschaum blend.

and tires that haven't been driven through cow pats as well. Really fires me up....The only real Latakia is cured over smoldering Pirelli tires. It wouldn’t surprise me if some unscrupulous bastard is using Continentals to save some money.
I think you mean used camel diapers.and tires that haven't been driven through cow pats as well. Really fires me up....
Better yet, what if they did a blind taste test and the two are a little different and they consistently preferred the fake flavoring over the real thing, what then? What if some companies have been using it? And if the Lat blend you have been enjoying has it in it? Would that make any difference? I don't think it will make any difference to me.
Ahhh, you are smoking too much Peterson’s Nightcap. It’s not as good as the Dunhill Nightcap. Ha ha"value" concepts like "authenticity" that don't actually mean anything outside the human animal's fragile psyche trying to deal with cognitive dissonance in justifying some made-up concept in a meaningless universe.
Links? Never heard this.Through mediums such as Social Media comments, and pipe community youtubers, I have been hearing/seeing rumors of "fake" Latakia being used in blends. I guess the thought is that cyprian latakia is becoming difficult to obtain and manufacturers are testing a sprayed on "liquid smoke" type flavoring to other types of leaf to mimic the taste of latakia. Can anyone tell me where this idea is coming from, and if it is legit?
that's the rumor but it's bovine excretions.I think you mean used camel diapers.
I figure the idea came from somewhere, and was worth discussing! And what better place to discuss it? You can call that spreading it around if ya likeI deduce it comes from folks like you, spreading it around.
Good thought experiment! I honestly don't think i would mind, i smoke aromatics from time to time, and that could be considered a similar process. So, a hypothetical.... what if you found out that your favorite latakia blend used an artificial latakia flavoring? Would you decide to hate it, or just continue to enjoy it?
Good info here, thank you! This thread from a few months ago by @woodsroad might interest you: Tobacco Flavoring for Smoking Products: Leffingwell, 1972 :: Pipe Tobacco Discussion - https://pipesmagazine.com/forums/threads/tobacco-flavoring-for-smoking-products-leffingwell-1972.99184/
According to list of products from 1972, Latakia flavoring (and perique flavoring!) have been around at least since then. We don't know how commonly they are actually used in tobacco, though.
On page 2 of that thread, a response to from Jeremy Reeves generously shared his perspective from inside the industry too.
