Need to pick the brains of you guys with more experience with the esoterica line. Are the bags the 8oz tobaccos come in air tight and is it safe to leave them in there over time?

I agree with BROBS. I've heard mention of small pinholes in these bags but don't have firsthand experience. Better be safe than sorry. The few bags I've had I vacuum sealed the entire gold bag in a food saver bag.
The short answer is maybe. A few years ago, a member here reported finding pinhole openings in the creases of several bags.
Based on that I took a look at my bags and found a couple of pinholes in a couple of bags, so I put the bags in heavy duty food grade Mylar bags which I then heat sealed.

I’ve had bad experience with their bags. The size is also impractical if you plan on smoking it. I repackage in smaller allotments in Mylar or jars.
Lost a bag of 2011 Stonehaven last year to a couple of cracks/holes in the old bag.

I personally ran into a number of bags a few years ago which either had developed pinholes or whose seal was incomplete. I haven't seen the dreaming issues since. Personally, I don't trust the bags. I seal two or three together in a large, very thick multi-layer,mylar-aluminum bags. These are simply heat sealed, not vacuum packed. This preserves my ability to resell in the future if my tastes change.
I reseal in bags and make fancy labels - so I have OCDC - but my esoterica stays perfect!

Nope. They develop pinholes. Had a nice bag of moldy Peacehaven a few months back. Open and Jar it, or put it in Mylar. Or just smoke it.
If you plan on smoking it in the next year, dont sweat it. Its a small percentage of bags that wind up with those, but it does happen. I'll put it this way. There are stories about the people who make this being confounded by people aging their product. Which may or may not be true. But one thing that is those packages are designed with the intention of selling and being smoked not horded. Jar it when unsure is also a very good piece of advice which I am giving you totally free.

Those pinholes are the consequence of continued mechanical stress of the polymer at weak points like the juncture of creases which cause torsion on multiple axes, delamination of the layers and failure of the seal.

I just opened a bag of dorchester to jar. This is my first experience with esoterica, and I was bowled over by the smell. It was rich and amazingly sweet. Can't wait to try a bowl tonight!
So, considering the number of people who's experience is that some small portion of their unopened bags had pinholes, assuming bags to be undisturbed cannot be assured.
