@foursidedtriangle Same here. I'm not currently in the market for aftermarket esoterica. I've been considering it for special Latakia flake, medium, flake, brown flake, and stonehaven but not yet. I want to try my hand at brick and mortar or even sp.com more first. The Esoterica blends themselves are fairly unique in flavor, though I would argue they aren't the best in their respective categories of blends. I do love their Virginia's though. Dunbar, Dorchester, Brighton, Tilbury, and Cardiff all strike a chord with me. I've yet to find a virginia blend with a similar flavor. Their casing is unique. Personally, I find other blends too pleasurable to justify stocking up by means of aftermarket, but I would pay to try a blend. I just haven't yet. Special Latakia flake and medium flake continue to elude me even more than Penzance so maybe I'll have no choice soon haha.
There is so much hype it is hard to know if it is actually good. Nightcap has so much praise and I didnt feel it was for me, and I love English tobaccos. Old dark fired has also so much hype, that one is great but not in my top 5.

Yes hype is sometimes undeserved. Old Dark Fired is one of my absolute favorites, especially with a few years of age. Nightcap I didn't like at first but absolutely love with a year of age. Penzance I was disappointed to be honest. It was good, but after smoking blends like Old Ironsides and Quiet Nights I was found myself favoring those over Penzance. I found And so to Bed to be unique and very pleasurable, and enjoyed Margate more than Penzance. I love the Esoterica Virginia's. Dunbar and Brighton to me have a beautiful range of Virginia flavors and the casing just complements those flavors wonderfully. I wish I could get some Peacehaven but I hear they don't make it now.

I hadn't smoked any Penzance in 4 or 5 months. Loaded up a bowl a bit earlier. Amazing how ones tastes can change. No question I enjoyed the bowl but it isn't all that. I probably have a bit over 3 lbs. I can't see chasing any more but might buy some here or there if it falls into my lap. Penzance is no longer in my top 10, I doubt that it is in my top 20.

It just never really has been all that. The unicorn chasing has upped people's expectations for an average blend.

While the topic is trending.
I have a 2oz tin of Penzance I’d be willing to trade for a 1954 Maserati. (In Concours condition of course.)

Do you think it's because the quality / blend isn't as good as it used to be?
I bought my first bag in 2006. I didn't like it. I jarred the bag and tried it again a decade later. I didn't like it any better. No blend is going to be all things to all people. Some people absolutely love it.
Its scarcity contributes to its luster.

Depends on whether I give a whit about their feelings and what they are feeling bad about. I, as a rule, don't care about jealousy or envy in others. And, offending others is simply too easy in these days of the "professionally and perpetually offended." It takes so very little effort that anyone can do it.
