I have 12 whole ounces plus a couple more in my smoking jar. I used to smoke Escudo all the time until one day I was seriously spanked by it and had to lay down for a good hour. I am glad its not going to be discontinued because I would like to get a dozen tins or so but must wait for the funds to be available.

entertaining watching my $100 go to Escudo purchase. Oh well it will get smoked eventually. It stays good in the tin right?

I'll venture a prediction that both Capstan and Three Nuns will soon be available in the US market again. At least a Mac Baren produced version. I base this on the fact that both trademarks are owned by Imperial Tobacco. Imperial recently sold its Altadis US pipe tobacco interests to Mac Baren. Mac Baren renamed Altadis Pipe Tobacco "Sutliff." Sutliff now distributs Mac Baren in the US. It was recently reported that Mac Baren in Denmark would take over the production of Capstan from STG/Orlik. And just today Kevin posted that he will have news to share regarding Capstan and 3 Nuns on Friday. I would not be surprised if in the Altadis deal from Imperial, Mac Baren was able to secure the US rights to distribute Capstan and maybe even 3 Nuns. Wild speculation, but there it is...

Yes duckfat, the auction in question is the older and discontinued AC Peterson production Escudo. The tin is from the Mike and Mary McNiel (owners of McClelland Tobacco Company) collection of rare tobacco tins that they have consigned with me for sale on eBay and my private tobacco website.
Best,

If I read this correctly no one should be worried, the Escudo in question is old Peterson stock.

Escudo does "stay good" in the tin. But AFAIK, Escudo doesn't overwhelm anyone after it's aged a while. Does it get better? Maybe. Does it get worse? Absolutely not.
roth, the 11 year old Escudo I have smoked is fantastic. It turns jet black and is creamy as hell, plus the raisin and fig component really shine with the perique being less peppery. It is a sublime blend with a decade or more. At the 5 year mark the perique is also less peppery and the creaminess is noticeable. It is good at 5 but over 10 really is much different.

I for one am glad for this thread. I tried this back in August '12 and didn't like it very much. I was mostly into English back then. I revisited it today and as a result Smoking Pipes has 24 less tins in their inventory. Good stuff. I can't wait to try some 5 and 10 year old vintage some day.

Always have a tin or two on hand. I agree Harris: Escudo does improve with age. It darkens and the flavors meld appreciably. Anyone tried stoving Escudo in the tin, per Fred Hanna's book chapter on stoving tins?
