Worry not, folks. When the time comes that Dunhill tobaccos are no more, I will be happy to trade my precious Dunhill tins for your Penzance!

Scandinavian Tobacco Group is the 800 lb gorilla in pipe tobacco. This year they are expected to do $1.055 billion of total sales (including cigars) with $136 mil in profit; of which pipe tobacco only represents only 8% or $84 mil in revenue and $19 mil profit for the year.
Altria is expected to have profits of $6.3 billion in 2017, Philip Morris Intl $7.5 billion , and British American Tobacco of $4.3 billion.
As a professional analyst, I will definitively tell you, these companies DO NOT care about pipe tobacco, it's a rounding error for most of them.
Just my .02 cents

Hey saltedplug, while your at it, have Laudisi buy Germains, Esoterica, Gawith Hoggarth/Samuel Gawith, and McClelland.
Germains, Esoterica, and the Gawith boys can't keep a market properly supplied. I think they are all poorly run and profits could be maximized better if supply was more consistent. They could even raise price and demand would still be strong, me thinks.
McClelland founder is getting old, and has talked about walking away from the business if he can't keep getting quality tobaccos...I really love McC products.

A analyst! Outstanding! Thanks for the meaningful numbers. You've put $13,000,000.00 in perspective. It really is not a lot of money in today's business world. Thanks for your research. First time I've benifited without fees. :worship:

As promised I called smokingpipes and asked for Sykes, but he was out of the office, so I said that a few of the guys on the pipesmagazine forum had been batting around ideas about Dunhill and had decided to recommend that he buy it; and I asked that he get the message.
Maybe. . .

Saltedplug, perhaps you are not understanding the situation. BAT owns the Dunhill trademark as it pertains to tobacco products. They make a good return on manufacturing cigarettes, and a not very good return on licensing that trademark to STG for pipe tobacco. So they are pulling out of the pipe tobacco licensing business. They are not interested in selling the trademark, because they are still using it and making good money with it in the cigarette business.
As to who actually controls the formulas used by STG in manufacturing the Dunhill blends, time will tell.

I would like to know under what other names STG is packaging EMP, Nightcap and Royal Yacht. If I can stay in steady supply of those three, then Dunhill can get out of the tobacco business and sell overpriced ties and "motoring" gloves to their hearts content. Just keep the tobaccos coming - I don't care what they call them. :puffy:
It won't matter who makes these blends, even under other brand names. Unless the FDA Rules are changed by Congress, once the Dunhill name is off the labels the blends will not be legal to sell in the US. The bit of breathing room that was apparently given a month or so ago doesn't affect the introduction of "new" blends.
Buy them while you can and store them in a nice dark, cool, and dry location. Short of a congressional repeal of the Deeming Rule, they're finito, as in done, gone, kaput, extinguished, deceased, terminated, extinct, moribund and dead.

Warren, I am an institutional money guy, only one customer. Fees are ridiculous for the average person . Avoid the fees, be passive, and use the savings for TAD

In reality, I don't do fees nor, do I take a lot of risk. I'll pay for advice though. I'm a pretty conservative with my disposable income. I've got a good broker, a lot of interest in the markets and very little spine. So I read, research and sit on my wallet most times.
It's a fun, entertaining, educational, and sometimes eye opening adventure. For me to peel off a few bills and invest I have to be pretty sure that, in the long term, I'll get a decent return. Actually the kids will get it all, including the attendant taxes, without any of the risk. I wish I was my kid.

Warren, you nailed it. It is fun and crazy and I feel lucky as hell to get paid to invest money. I think Dunhill Navy Rolls will be the most expensive product in 10 years, in the Dunhill lineup. What do you think or anyone else for that matter???

Without a $300k+ investment per blend. I really dislike anarchists, but they have a point about now.

Corporations are among the most greedy of human institution
Thank god Warren was around to combat this nonsense. For the record, let me call out the most greedy of Human Institutions: Progressive Anti Free Market Totalitarian Scumbag Moochers who use Marxist/Alinsky style Looter tactics to steal from their fellow man.

My inner philosopher thinks you are both right. All humans act in self-interest, and groups of humans are hijacked by individuals working in self-interest against the purpose or interests of the organization (this process is called "dark organization"). A government is a type of corporation. If it does not guard against dark organizations, it will become as exploited as, say, Google.
