And I pretty much don't care, as they make no blends that aren't surpassed by other suppliers, including some of our stellar American blenders.
Sorry, I have to disagree. No one does English like 965 or Nightcap.

Three or four hundred thousand new Dunhill blend fans added to the couple a dozen here and the blends might have continued. What company would want to purchase recipes and a very expensive brand name for blends which are not really that popular.
Blends come and go, friends move away, family members die and yet, life goes on. Tastes change, products come and go with sometimes amazing speed. Dunhill blends had a great run. RIP!

When Dunhill stopped selling into the US some years back, MM965 was my big jar blend. I wasn't particularly savvy about other blends, mostly because I tended to stick to my favorites. After I could no longer buy MM965, I looked around and found Greg Pease's wonderful blends. His Westminster is now my big jar blend. While I will miss Dunhill's blends, including Nightcap, I am less concerned about their departure from the market than I would be if Greg's stuff went away. I love his blends!

To us pipe smokers, Dunhill business may seem like a big deal. In the big picture of world economics, it doesn't register as a piece of fly poop in the miscellaneous others category. Not only an insignificant market in dollar volume, it is a hobby or addiction the voting majority is trying to abolish. It generates next to zero tax dollars to make it at all interesting to the government. When you put that all together, it should be rather easy to figure out the inevitable outcome.

bnichols, I think it would be nice if pipes and pipe tobacco were rated as high on the big picture priority list as expendable. I think it is more like irrelevant. I'd say cigars are rated expendable or slightly higher because consumption is so much wider spread and some of the cigar companies do put money into some lobbying efforts. Cigarettes are well above expendable due to the huge tobacco companies deep pockets and the tax revenues. Sadly, the only vote that matters is the one made with a wallet.

I forgot where I read that the Dunhill blends were being produced through the end of 2017 and that they anticipated having 12-18 month's worth of inventory.

A Lane Rep was in my B&M the other day and told the store owner they he can't replenish his stock of Dunhill anymore. I also did not know Lane was the distribution for Orlick and Peter S. blends. The Rep also said they will be out of Orlick Dark Strong for a bit too.

Glad I saw this thread ... I have been procrastinating picking up some Nightcap bulk. Checked around and most are showing backordered or sold out / no buy button. I did find one shop with some bulk left, so I picked myself up one last pound of Nighcap bulk to cellar. I really enjoy Nightcap; can’t believe this incarnation is going away. I’ll be able to enjoy it for a time at least between the bulk buy and tins I’ve put away...

"From The Baby's Bottom #38"
From The Baby's Bottom #2 surely?
On a more serious note, with all these producers going belly up does that mean there will soon be a glut of tobacco leaf looking for a market?
Regards,
Jay.

I bought a can or 2 of the Dunhill blends I haven't tried. They are stuck away for a day when I want to bust out something different. Stocked up over the past 2 years on the few blends that I really would miss like Navy rolls and the flakes.

I wish my life was as organized as my tobacco cellar.

@folanator ... yeah man, the local B&M has a couple tins of 2yr aged standard mixture I think I’m going to pick up if they are still there in a couple weeks on principle alone. I’m surprised to still see the navy flake still in stock online too .... if stock holds up till Auguas I might grab a batch of tins and open 1 a year for the next decade or so...

With the pipesandcigars 20% off sale last week, I got tins of Dunhill London Mixture and Hearth and Home White Knight for $6.40/tin, shipped, by buying their Battle of the Blends packs. Those are a great deal, as long as you want both blends.

A year and a half of notice is definitely enough time to stock your favorites. I really like two of their blends Dunhill Flake and Deluxe Navy Rolls. I stocked up years ago and have enough. I won't miss their tobacco, but I will miss their presence in the pipe world. They were a symbol of luxury and of consistency. Sure their pipes are over priced but they represent a history that cannot be dismissed. It is a shame they are going out.

cigrmaster, it's pretty convoluted, but I think the whole Dunhill operation split in three years ago. Correct me if I'm wrong here folks. The largest financial part went to a high-end boutique selling handbags and other luxury goods. The pipe making operation split off and is now (?) White Dot. And the blender stands alone and says its going out of business never to return and not changing hands. I may have it wrong, but that's my current understanding. The disappearance of the tobacco blending operation will have no effect on the pipe manufacturing, I don't think. The ownership is completely separate on all three.
