I made up a spreadsheet of some of my tins and will be sending it to everyone that has purchased tins from me on eBay in the past 6 months, we'll see how that does.

Damn. I had just one tin of penzance I wanted to get rid of on there. Sounds like it's best not to chance it.

You guys know the new rules and I don't know why you try and be sneaky and circumvent the rules. I think it gives us pipers bad names. Shows we don't care what the rules are. I know we don't like them, but I think we should be above reproach and follow them while fight them legally.

@tarheel: I respectfully disagree. The rules and interpretation are constantly changing. The other thing about Ebay that constantly changes are the fees - they go consistently higher.

This is putting it mildly. The important point he makes that few understand is interpretation. Rules are just words on paper. The interpretation determines how it will be applied in reality and is all that matters.

How is it that Ebay has been so successful at preventing ANY kind of competition? I mean I understand the situation, but in all businesses, there are ALWAYS at least a few living off the scraps. Who is the Kmart here?

It is very hard to unseat existing market dominators.
Google, Amazon, eBay, Budweiser, democracy.

Whether the rules change or not They are currently state no tobacco of any kind. There is no interpretation to that other than that it is not allowed. Whether we like the rules of not, they are the are there. The rules have been violated in the past so much because everyone knew the tobacco was not to be sold for consumption. If you state otherwise you are blowing smoke up peoples arses. Its just people not liking the rules and finding a loophole and doing what they want. Maybe because how I was raised, or maybe because what I did in the military, but I was taught to be an example and do the right thing whether I liked it or not, and whether anyone was looking or not, that way my judgment and leadership could never be brought into question.
There is enough negative attention and spotlights on our community, we don't need any more by people thinking of believing we don't feel or think the rules apply to us and we do what we want, no matter how unjust the rules are. If you don't like the rules, don't use the services.

Yes, and for a time that was interpreted to mean that it was OK so long as the tin was being sold, not the contents.
Wish they'd go back to that.
If you don't like the rules, don't use the services.
Sound advice. We need our own services anyway :)

I list nothing in my ads, no "not for smoking", etc. BS. If folks want to collect the tins, who am I to judge? As long as Ebay keeps listing smoking paraphernalia for drugs and allowing that it be termed "tobacco pipe", etc., I sleep with a clear conscience.

JustPlainMetal, who would've thought that Walmart would be unseated? It happens and there's ALWAYS up and comers... Except here.

Al, This "clear conscience" of which you speak, it helps you sleep? Like Ambien?
Never tried Ambien, more like this, my daughters Great Dane, he drops off just about anywhere.

The not-so-nice realization is that eBay is a scam. The company makes money; does anyone else?
I started out watching it destroy the record resale community. A great loss, replaced by... the McDonald's of resale.
So no, I don't use eBay, or Paypal. But I think you raise a good point: if hypocrisy is OK, why are some hypocrisies (slight) targeted instead of the big hypocrisy?
The answer, as I am sure you anticipate, is to distract.
