Back in High School, my friend's dad used to keep his collection of pipes in a large bowl.
IIRC he had a Disneyland pipe as wwell as several Peterson Shannon Airports (he was a travel agent)
I seem to remember the bowl being metal, about the size of a punch bowl

I never saw a rack I liked, so I just get those little leather pipe couch dealies instead. I did treat myself a couple months ago to a bookshelf just for my pipes and tobaccos, then wired it with LED lighting strips.

I keep my knock around pipes in a rack and my nicer ones in a drawer. I also keep several corn cob pipes in a large Captain Black can on a shelf. By the way, that’s what I want my ashes put in when I die! ???

Iwan Ries in their most recent paper catalog has an open six-pipe basic rack for $25. Or, a peg board outfitted with those little rubber clamps designed to hold tools would do where decor is not an object, what they do in many pipe shops.

Well I guess it depends on what kind of rack you're referring to I am talking about a Pipe Rack.

I really don't want to spend money on a rack I'd rather toss that money towards pipes/tobacco. Are there any alternatives out there - I don't care about aesthetics. Maybe repurposing ideas? Building one's not an option I am not a handy man. I have about 10 pipes.

Don't you think it's still better a normal stand, why do you need an egg carton. You take it once and it will last you a lifetime. Here is a dude who sells good racks, high quality, not expensive and beautiful. Egg cartons for eggs, wooden stands for pipes. ?

Pretty easy to clean. Put them in the bin, and away from the sun.

Stands are for dolls, tools go in a box. They're just pipes after all and far from the most expensive ones in there.

I use an olde humidor to keep the pipes that are not in rotation. An egg crate to hold the pipes I’ll use this week.
I know I’ll buy a proper rack one day. Just haven’t found it.

I have fewer pipes, but otherwise mine are boxed the same. Pipes are durable.

I get mine from thrift stores. Usually around ten dollars. Or I should say, my mother in law finds and buys them for me!

Cheap as it gets... I put shrink tubing on the tines to avoid scratching the pipes.
