Does the YTPC Need New Blood?

I have a successful podcast and an up and coming YT channel so I was thinking I may start another YT channel based solely on pipe smoking from a beginner's perspective. Then I thought that the YTPC is already flooded so why bother? Your thoughts?...

Content is content. If I was going to watch something, it would be because the content is interesting, or funny, or thought provoking, etc.

"Expertise" is overrated in video. Make it entertaining. We're smoking leaves not splitting the atom.

If you want an example of a useful member of the Youtube pipe community check out Dsociald. His videos, which are pretty much all tobacco reviews, are short and to the point and he is refreshingly normal -- no screaming "Look at it" or welcoming people from the "back stage (my garage)" or the "west parlor" or rambling incessantly about random useless shit. Stuff and Things does reviews that I find useful but they tend to be a bit too long.

Whaaa....?? You mean to tell me you aren't absolutely enthralled watching videos of old men and haughty hipsters smoking pipes? How else are you going to figure out how some dude you never met feels about a pipe you'll never smoke, or a tobacco you're not interested in? What are you going to do, try them yourself and form your own opinions? How old fashioned! I bet you play your own video games too!

When I smoke and want to look for a video to watch while smoking, I prefer to just search for women's beach volleyball. I could watch that all day long.

According to most the YT pipe experts I've been smoking a pipe the wrong way for nearly 50 years. ? Must admit I do enjoy watching some YT pipe smokers....more for their off topic chat than anything pipe related. ?
Then there are those who think the sun shines out of their....pipes.

In the 24 hours this thread has went on, a professional YouTuber would have created 1500 videos, stepped away from the hobby for “metal health” and come back to revive their community. Haha.

The ones I actually do enjoy are the guys who do pipe restores or repairs, also the guys who make custom ones from scratch. Those are legitimately interesting and they often have some very specialized knowledge and experience that would be difficult, borderline impossible, to find out in the real world.

Of course now youtube can't help suggest pipe related things to me, one of them haunting my suggestion feed is this video called, "What kind of pipe smoker do you want to be?" ... I can't express how irritating I find it, as if people are trying to design a persona around their pipe smoking. Might as well ask, what type of beer drinker do you want to be? What type of hat wearer do you want to be? What type of steak eater do you want to be? Just seems kind of ridiculous haha!

You hit the nail on the head. Any video longer than 10-15 seconds is utterly boring - Unless special care is taken to make it look like a documentary.
I love the written media and still photos - videos not so much.

Edited to add... I can read at very high speeds, and whatever the monologue has to say over 15 minutes I can probably read within 1 (or max 2) minutes. So I am more productive reading than listening.

Yeah! If you edited most videos and removed the pretentious puffing and staring at the heavens for inspiration, they'd only be two seconds long!
