It's okay lost, we know that not every palate is discerning enough to appreciate the splendor of refined understatement. Some individuals need a boat oar across the face before their taste-buds take notice.

One of the few aromatics that I do like. And I like it because it is a mild smoke. After smoking a lot of dark-fired burley, and Latakia-heavy blends ... A nice mild smoke is very welcome. And the smell of the tobacco is so nice it would make a nice air-freshened or an incense!

1Q was one of the first bulk blends I bought and it's ok, but once you expand further (even just inside the realm of aromatics) beyond it there really isn't any looking back. I'm still a big aro fan but have also found an appreciation for light english blends (blends with latakia involved, like cav/bur/lats). I have still not tried any orientals or found a VA/VaPer that I like.

"Ooh look at me, look at me. I'm Lane 1Q and I'm an aromatic!"
Ah... OK, that's going to take me sometime to try and understand, but whatever?
Anyway, I don't 'dislike' 1-Q and it's the most highly recommended tobacco when it comes to aro's, and I suppose rightfully so. After all, 'most' people new to pipe smoking start out with aro's as they normally associate smoking a pipe with a delightful smell. To me, and for the most part, that is where most aro's end for me.
After delving into countless aro's (1-Q included) I eventually found myself feeling as though I was simply blowing out a delightful smelling smoke (room note), but with absolutely no taste or satisfaction whatsoever for me. I have, for the most part, no longer smoke aro's except when my daughter and granddaughter are over and I feel the need to light up a bowl as I know that they like the smell (especially my granddaughter) and it won't offend them. So, I do on those occasions smoke an aro but it will more often than not be Boswell's Pennsylvania Delight as that is about the only aro that I can actually, to some degree, taste.
But as I said, I don't dislike 1-Q but it, and most aro's, leave me completely unsatisfied.

Meh... I don't dislike 1Q and if it was all I had I would smoke and be happy. That being said, out of the 70 or so blends I currently have, 1Q would be close to my last choice.

1Q is a pleasant, mild smoke, and sometimes it is a nice mix with other tobaccos, but in the Lane's

line, I prefer LL-7, which has a little more personality. Aros are for me a rotation from English blends

like 965 and Nat Sherman 536, or other Va/Per or other blends.

It might be hard to find someone that doesn't like the way 1Q smells while others are smoking it, but you'll find many that dont like smoking it themselves. IMO Aro's tend to be bland and boring. Kinda of like eating shredded wheat cereal.

It's possible... depending on whether or not the driving force behind said boat oar is capable of producing enough kinetic energy to affect said taste buds.

Well, I do remember reading a recent post by Russ about the percentage of Aromatic smokers vs Non-Aromatic smokers, and the numbers are significantly FOR the Aromatic pipers. I bought a sample of 1Q because of fact it was the best selling bulk tobacco. I didn't care for it, but it's apparent I'm of the minority.

I learned on 1Q and for 42 years it was all I smoked. Since then I've expanded to other aros that I like a lot better, but 1Q does have a soft spot in my heart.
Hokey pow how long has this stuff been around?

I guess pretty much everyone in the pipe tobacco industry would be a long time player at this point.
I've only had one bowl of 1Q, and while it was "sweet" it wasn't a wholly pleasant experience. It wasn't just straight tobacco like Irish Flake, so that's a plus, but it wasn't quite like tasting candy either (at least not any candy I've had before).

It's funny reading descriptions of a blend you like by people who don't. It's a great reminder of how the same blend can strike each person differently. I figured 1Q would be an uncontroversial blend and yet it seems to not leave many in the middle ground. I agree it's not a complex blend but sometimes something simple but perfect is just what I need. Of course if the flavor does not appeal to you, the simplicity will be of no help.

I like 1Q on occasions. There are occasions where I am wanting something sweet, but not overly smokey or tobacco like flavor and will reach for 1Q. I think it is a good aromatic, but I just don't usually find myself reaching for an aromatic, so it sees less use.
