I've heard of Doctor of Pipes, but not Master of Pipes?
What are they exactly? What are the criteria?
Is this something akin to being a Kentucky Colonel or an Admiral in the Texas Navy?
Wasn't Ed Norton a "doctor of pipes?" Or, perhaps in an honorific for a Scot who repairs "war pipes." Streisand's ENT? And ... so forth ...

And just who can award such a thing? What are their qualifications and credentials? Sounds like some mutual admiration society to me.

There’s lots of guys and gals out there who put tremendous energy into promoting and furthering our understanding of many aspects of pipes and tobacco. Blenders, historians, pipe makers, collectors, show organizers, etc..
Chicago decided to honor these folks. It’s a nice thing.

The Doctor of Pipes honor is awarded annually by the Chicagoland Pipe Collectors Club. It is awarded by a vote of the living Doctor of Pipes. It is extremely coveted award.
The Master of Pipes is reserved for those individuals under 40. This was an award created by the CPCC to individuals under 40 for contribution to the hobby.

I’ve only been at this for 5-6 years, never been to a pipe show, and I knew about it. I just assumed it was widely known about in the pipe world.

Michael Parks was to receive it...not sure if it was just him for this year.
Never heard of it either but it sounds cool and seems like a nice honor to win! I’ve definitely heard of Michael Parks. Fantastic carver.
