I never considered myself someone who would own a bulldog pipe. I felt the shape to be pretentious and much to austere for myself. I've smoked pipes for nearly four decades and during that time I never once considered buying one with a bulldog shape.

You must have recanted since this post as I recall you mention you are eagerly awaiting your latest score - a Dr Grabow Royalton Bulldog 😁

Here's the story. Unbeknownst to me, it turns out I had many Rhodesians in my collection of pipes from over the years. Once I realized I already was drawn to the family, I decided to drop my prejudices and embraced my French side. Now, I have quite a few bulldogs: A Kristiansen, a LHS Purex, a Rattray Marlin, a Charlatan traditional, a James Upshall traditional, a Hardcastle straight, and a Dr. Grabow Starfire, Royalton and Royal Duke. It just kind of happened.

The bulldog and Rhodesian are shapes that I do like, but whenever I am on the hunt for a pipe, they are not the shapes or forms which make me want to lay out the cash; in the last decade or so, it seems to be billiard-variants for which I pay. Still I do have a few that I have had for many years; a Tracey Mincer custom-bilt being one I like and use frequently when doing yard work.

I am definitely a fan of bulldogs and Rhodesians and own several examples. I'm least crazy about egg and fan shaped pipes but I know myself too well to say I'll never own one because as soon as I'm sure I hate a shape I end up seeing a rendition that makes me a liar. 😂

My first briar was Peterson SH Squire. Beautiful smooth finish. Like other pipes in SH series, XL in size. But with fishtail. Wasn't sure about P-lips back then. A lovely bulldog. Never really cared how a pipe looked on me. As long as I like it, others can "bite my shiny metal ass."

I’ve got a Butz-Choquin bulldog pipe I love but whose stem is toast beyond repair. Any recommendations on how to obtain a replacement? I’d want an acrylic.
