Pipe Dreamer and Star Gazer

Just arrived and now smoking, a Dr. Grabow Royal Duke Bulldog with a silver band and a bent saddle stem. Notice the cross-hatching on the top of the bowl. The classic Dr. Grabow Bulldog bowl - it is a shame these pipes are now no longer in production. I purchased this one from WVSmokeshop. This is the same place I found my Royalton Bulldog. The end of an era apparently.

Good looking. But, question has to be asked: Is it really a bulldog without the two grooves around the bowl?
Yes it is. I have bulldogs with and without the grooves, but it always seems like the pipe is a bit naked without them. The beauty of the Dr Grabow bulldogs, I think, is found in their simplicity. I believe I’ve seen Dunhill bulldogs with the grooves. Plus, the grooves sometimes chip. Yikes.
