My second - there’s some I enjoy quite a bit that are a bit moist and sticky but I let them dry some. And many come ready to go. Probably 2/1 ratio for me of aros to others.

I mostly smoke aromatics and straight orientals these days.

For me, it's a mix, like with most other things. My favorite blender, Drew Estate, though they were active for a very short time, of the eight blends they put out, six were aromatics that verged on goopy, but never truly qualified as such IMHO. Lakelands aside (which I detest unilaterally and thus feel it inequitable to count them), all but one of the worst all-time blends I have tried were aromatics. Still, I was undeterred so early on in my pipe smoking journey, and once I got through that phase of wanting to try a ton of different blends, I established a handful of winners in the aro genre. I did trade away almost all of the truly goopy stuff though--I think Lane BCA and Cult BRM are the only ones I ended up keeping. I don't smoke those very often, but when I do, the itch never goes unscratched.

So, to sum it up...a few are great, some are good, some are tolerable, quite a few are bad, and some are...

And of course, YMMV. What else is new?

Not at all. Without them, pipe tobacco sells wouldn't be lucrative enough to keep the business alive.
I've always wondered how many "I hate aromtics" are secretly sitting by themselves and enjoying a good aromatic smoke.

Yeah, they're the same ones who are winning all of the women's sporting events.
Nope. They don't smoke because they don't see pipe smoking as feminine enough.

I miss the Drew Estate blends. Grand Central and Central Park Stroll were my favorite of the aromatics.
But I also enjoyed several tins of Drew Estate Meat Pie.

Yes, anything with a liquorice or anise flavoured topping sucks. Lol. There are also some others that are not my cup of tea.

Other than that, I love Aro’s when the mood hits. If I feel like a fruity smoke on a sunny afternoon, why not? A little after dinner peach cobbler, yes please.

I’ve had buddies say, if you want to taste maple syrup and pancakes, why don’t you just eat maple syrup and pancakes? Why smoke it?

I tell them that If I ate maple syrup and pancakes, or drank Irish Cream, every time I felt like it I’d be a 400 pound alcoholic who still smokes a pipe 😂.

Other times I want to sit outside with my wife not have her tell me I stink like an ashtray or a dirty old taxi cab.

So, unabashed aro lover here. My only problem with aro’s are there are too many to try with the crazy Canadian tobacco prices.

Going outside now to smoke some delicious Lane Black Raspberry or some Lord Menthley’s. 😊

Watch City, Country Squire, Wilke, KBV, et al, make some very fine aromatics.

From the other side of the pond, I’ve enjoyed GH American Delite, SG Perfection and Ennerdale. Also I’ll always have a soft spot for Stanwell Melange and Vauen Auenland.

My dark horse aro fave is Lord Morgan. 60% Latakia aged in a bourbon barrel. Don’t know why this works - but it does.

FWIW, if you’re main concern is nicotine in your aro, try War Horse Bar and War Horse Green (same as Bar, but with more syrup). If that doesn’t get your nic craving under control, then pipe smoking may not be your jam.
