This thread got me thinking, I'm looking for a larger meer with a nice lattice call it @hoosierpipeguy envy, I had to go weigh one of my small meers that came in at 1.2 oz ... so i know when i look at the pipes online to stay away from anything that lite. lol
I don't remember Mark having a lattice, but IMP makes some nice ones. You can find some no name lattice gems that are more attractive than the big brands.

Eh I'm probably calling it a lattice and it's not, it's his Altinay with the weave to it. I like the dragon one i found and i have a couple bids in on 2 no names that are nicely carved so might end up with at least 2 new pipes.

Ah, okay. That one has a carved finish. The lattice carvings, my favorite finish, have a series of indentations.

Some have a hollow shell around an inner bowl.

That's an excellent big cat carving on the bottom pipe. I'm not sure which species was the model, but it is more bulky than a cougar or leopard, so it looks like a jaguar to me. They have a 700 pound jaw strength and hunt crocodiles in the water.
It was listed as a mountain lion. With that much detail, none of the carvers I know have any idea who made it.

Sitting here admiring all those beautifully colored meerschaums got me to ruminating about my own meerschaum stash, and in particular about Jack.

Twenty years ago, at a Ducks Unlimited dinner in the fall, my wife bought Jack, a started golden Labrador retriever puppy.

By Thanksgiving, I took an A H Fox Sterlingworth and doubled on two cock pheasants south of Mitchell, South Dakota that Jack had pointed, and watched Jack retrieve both to me. Those were the first wild pheasants the pup had ever seen.

My family bought me a meerschaum pipe with a carved dog for Christmas 2002, that I naturally named Jack.

I’ve had exactly one dog worth stealing my entire life, that would load up for a stranger.

My neighbors warned us how they saw a blue van and strangers trying to get Jack to get in. I hope that Jack spent a lifetime hunting with them, because one day the sunsabeeches got him to load.

This year, I’m smoking a pound of Creme Brûlée in Jack.

Or at least that’s my New Year’s resolution.

That one needs some insert replacements. The head of the mortise piece has broken off and is in the stem.

Thank you, it’s not good at all.

Are these what to buy?

Average size for my meerschaum collection, but only bought it to look at.

It’s funny how different our smoking styles are. I have no use for a pipe over 1.5 in depth. I prefer 1.2-1.3 in depth for a 20-40 minute smoke depending on the cut of tobacco. It illustrates how personal pipe smoking really is.

I can't completely close my hands due to carpal tunnel and arthritic knuckles. Smaller pipes would just fall out of my hands if not careful.
